Gaining weight after going to the gym?!
JuniperandI · 15/03/2023 07:53
Hello ladies
Help! I've been on sw for 5 1/2 weeks and had lost 1 stone 2lbs. However, I've just started going to the gym and I've put on 2lb! I need to specifically lower my BMI for fertility treatment so this worries me. I'm not weight lifting or anything so I don't think it's muscle mass.
Has this happened to any of you? Will the scale start tipping in the right direction again? I'm following the plan 100%, using my HEXs, etc.
TIA.

It wont be muscle mass because that takes months and months to build up in a dedicated way
it will be water around your joints and muscles to compensate for the work they're doing, its a natural body response to your body working in a different way, just carry on with what you're doing and dont take any notice of it.

It’s just inflammation. It will be gone in a day or two and lesson as your body adapts to exercise.

Thanks. I've been building up a little bit more exercise so that makes sense because I went a bit harder yesterday.
Hoping this doesn't happen every time I go to the gym, meant to be going again tomorrow!

Don't worry! Krista Scott-Dixon, Ph. D., Director, Headspace Adjustment Bureau, Precision Nutrition said that When you started exercising, your muscles started gobbling up fuel called glycogen. Since glycogen stores water, you could gain up to 10 pounds in water weight alone. Therefore, don't mind it. Just continue to exercising. If you feel too stressful, you can relax by playing games like cubes 2048. This is the best way to calm your mind after exercising hard.

Keep at it, make sure you're staying hydrated and eating enough good stuff. Things will go in the right direction. We'll done and good luck with the treatment.

It's water. Just drink plenty and it will go. People massively underestimate the amount of concentrated effort and strategy it takes for a woman to build even a few pounds of muscle.

I weighed myself every day at the same time for a couple of years. I was always 2lbs heavier the day after a workout and during my period. Some days I would be 1 or 2lb heavier for no apparent reason and then the next day be lighter than 2 days before!
Long story short, we fluctuate.

Thank you everyone. I hit the gym again this evening, I'll definitely keep at it.

Hiya.
Does anyone know how long this lasts for? When will I be able to exercise and not see more lb on the scale the next day? It's really frustrating, and starting to get me down.

You should lift some weights, you’ll burn more calories at rest!
Make sure you’re not unknowingly eating more as you’re hungrier from working out, and remember you’ll be drinking more so may have some fluid retention. Keep plugging away at it, watch your intake, step up your activity generally and weight should come off.
