Hello, I joined slimming world 4 weeks ago and I've lost 1/2 a stone so far. Still 2 stone to go. My problem is the bras I have (fairly new) are too big, or just not comfortable. I bought cheap m and s t shirt bras as I was hoping to not be in them long! I just can't wear them but can't return them as worn a few times. Anyway, I was thinking non wired, sports type bras might work for in between sizes (s,m,l rather than cup sized). Do any of you have any recommendations? I like the sweaty betty mindful yoga bra but reviews are mixed. I'm 34e at last measure but my pre weight gain size was 30e/ 32d. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I have a similar problem. Have you tried the Sainsburys Tu sports/crop bra thing? I'm reluctant to spaff £££ on anything that isn't going to be in use for long, hopefully. As I type, I am remembering that Dsis really likes the Poundland sports bra/pullover bra.

The Tesco (Florence and Fred) pull on ones are really comfy and because they are very stretchy they will shrink with you! They have removable pads so you can take them out and if needed, put them back in when your boobs are smaller.

Well done on your half stone loss!

At that size I think you still need a supportive bra. I recommend looking know ebay. I picked up a couple of brand new freya bras recently for about £14 each. Rrp around £30+. I know they're genuine as I have always bought them for the higher price before and know what to expect.

I am also losing weight and I just got a 2 pack on next for £26. Comfy, fit well, supportive and didn’t cost the earth (as bras for DD+ do!) I find with a sports bra type I get back ache. Well done on your weight loss!

Depending which bit doesn't fit you can sometimes alter a bra. Taking the back strap in is pretty easy. Just cut the fastener off and a piece out and then sew the fastener back on. If front centre gapes you sometimes can hold it together so it doesn't and cut out any excess fabric then stitch it back up.

Other than that comfort bras are very cheap as are the bras on the Asda website.

Congrats on your 1/2 stone 🎉 I found the Fantasie Fusion Full Cup Bra's a lifesaver when I was heading towards my target which I finally hit this week, 2.5 stone gone. Overall I've dropped 3 cup sizes and 6 inches in my back. When I went to be refitted recently the lady in the bra shop said the fantasie ones were a really good choice (I was already wearing them by accident than design) as they have flexi cups so have more longevity in wearing and allow for fluctuations due to cycle too. ♥️

I have found Next bras pretty reasonably priced - a three pack of white, black and natural underwired t shirt bras for about £30.

Can anyone suggest anywhere for good wired but non padded bras? So many brands now seem to pad everything and since I have huge bazoomas this is the last thing I want.

Thank you for all your great ideas and suggestions! I had a trawl around sports direct, tk maxx and sainsbury's earlier but couldn't see anything worth trying on.

@mrsmacmc thanks for the recommendation, I'll check them out. Well done on your loss!

@DelurkingLawyer I got a non padded bra from fantasie today at John Lewis. I believe it's the one mrsmacmc suggested. Under £30. Turns out I'm 32f. This would be why the 34e are uncomfortable!

My sister recently lost five stone with 5:2, she had similar problems. She bought maternity bras and maternity clothes from ASOS, they have some very plain things that just have expanding bits so fit across sizes. She found that worked well, the bras weren't quite as supportive as standard ones but looked fine and she said they were comfy. Saved her a lot of money as she didn't have to keep buying new stuff, ASOS maternity wear also has a lot of versions of clothes they have in other sections, so they don't look like obvious maternity wear, particularly the plainer styles. But the quality varies so think you'd have to be quite selective.

Walserwasstrange · 08/05/2022 18:52

I checked with her, she was a size 18/20 when she started and bought maternity wear for size 14, it expanded enough to fit her but wasn't too baggy when she got below size 14. If that helps at all.

Ah thanks @Italianmeringuebuttercream - I will look next time I have time!

I wore my new bra today and the difference in comfort is incredible. I'll give ebay a look for cheaper ones now I know my size xxx

If you’ve lost weight your band size should have gone down so it sounds like you’ve been wrongly measured. If you were 30/32 you can’t have gone up to a 34…

Italianmeringuebuttercream · 09/05/2022 21:00

@Musmerian yes you're right. I just assumed I'd gotten bigger all over as my 32es were not fitting (and I'm 2 stone heavier). I tried one of my mums 34ds and the cup was too small but back felt alright so I decided 34e it was! I should have saved my self the trouble and gotten fitted earlier. The non wired bras were no way supportive enough, far to jiggly for working in a school!
