Thinking of SW but how does it fit into life?

DM is joining slimming world again and has helpfully suggested I go. I do have a good 4 stone or so to lose and I hate myself so she's not being unkind.

But. What on earth do you actually eat??? I have no time to be cooking from scratch every night, one day a weekend is spent working so not a lot of time (or room) to batch cook either.

What could I eat on a daily basis? I realise I'm happy to find any excuse to put things off. I also really look forward to wine on a Friday!

They do their own brand ready meals but they are about £3 - £4 and only at Iceland. Otherwise it is making stuff. Have done SW before but now calorie count using my fitness pal and find that for me its much much less restrictive.

Short answer is that it doesn't long term. Which is why I gave up.

It's not even cooking from scratch. It's cooking from scratch with a limited number of ingredients.

Try looking at the Daily Menu thread to get ideas of what other SW members eat. It only takes 30 minutes to cook some meals. Try Pinch of Nom Quick and Easy book.

Would your DM be willing to batch cook and share hers with you, if she's doing SW too?

I make my SW meals from scratch but it takes a fair bit of planning and prep. I don't go to a group anymore but when I did I think most of the other members relied on convenience food. If I mentioned SW friendly recipes there was a lot of blank faces.

If you do want to go down the convenience route then Myslimmingworldsynfinds on Instagram is very helpful

You can eat unlimited amounts of pasta, potatoes, rice etc. Depends what you add to them. Addition of oils, etc, other than one cal will add syns. Certain cous-cous and microwavable rice are also 'free food'. Just needs slightly more thinking about, but can be done. I've just had beans on toast. Beans free, bread either to be syned or a Healthy Extra.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 10/01/2022 17:42

Most unadulterated fish and meat are syn free too. I make a curry with chick peas and veg, really quickly, entirely syn free.

What do you currently eat? It might be easy enough to tweak.

ChicCroissant · 10/01/2022 18:01

What would you usually eat for tea? My DH does SW and he usually has meat for tea, he cooks some of the SW recipes which take a bit more time but mostly he has meat, potatoes and lots of veg. Tonight we're having chicken risotto. What are you having for tea tonight OP?
