Wanted to go back to slimming world and leave Joe Wicks

Hey all , I'm new here.

For the last two months I have been doing to 90 days plan by Joe Wicks. Now here's where it get confusing so bare with me.

I joined the plan because I wanted to lose 2.5st and get at 9st. And I've actually gained weight since starting the plan (I'm almost 12st and overweight) and I'm not liking at one bit, apart from that food and workouts.

But...here's my problem, I really want to go back to slimming world. I originally joined in '13 at 10 st 2. And then got to target, went on holiday 3 years later and put 4lb back in and it went up from there. So I tried WW and that didn't work. So here I am almost 7 years later STILL trying to get to 9st.

I've only recently become pre diabetic, relating to my weight. Which is the main reason why I wanted to do the 90 day plan because I thought it might be different. And I'm utterly disappointed and I'm only finishing it off because it's a waste of money otherwise.

I've even re downloaded the Slimming world app and I'm ready to start my journey when the Joe Wicks plan is over.

I just need to helpful and kind advice. Nothing mean or horrible please as I'm already depressed enough as it is.

Should I stick it out and see what my end result is or go to slimming world (which I know works for me weight loss wise

I don't know what the Joe Wicks plan is. There must be some reason you have gained weight related to your food intake. Are you following it properly? If it is not working why would you want to keep going? Just stop.

If you're pre-diabetic, then cutting out simple carbs and sugar would be a great start, just by itself. You'd lose weight too.

Well SW has clearly worked for you before in terms of weight loss so I'd definitely say give it another go. You just might need a bit more support though to stay at target this time.

I'm a bit over a stone and a half down since the start of lockdown - from BMI 33 to 29 - and loving it. I have some blood sugar issues too (reactive hypoglycaemia) but have found my blood sugar levels to be really steady as I'm only eating free/low syn foods so nothing that raises my blood sugar too much. I would expect it would help with your prediabetic diagnosis, and weight loss helps insulin resistance I believe.

I'm only finishing [the Joe Wicks' programme] off because it's a waste of money otherwise.

I should add this sounds like the sunk cost fallacy. You're not enjoying that programme, you're gaining weight, why wouldn't you switch to something that you have good reason to believe (based on your past success) will be better for you?

There's a really good episode of Freakonomics called "The Upside of Quitting" explaining how money people have spent on things can really screw their decisions of whether to continue with it (link freakonomics.com/podcast/new-freakonomics-radio-podcast-the-upside-of-quitting/). I say quit Joe Wicks, start SW and do not feel guilty about it.

Have you been in touch with the support team at Joe Wicks and asked about why it hasn't worked? We are on this plan and you don't necessarily loose lots of weight because effectively you loose fat but gain muscle and therefore the scales don't accurately reflect the changes. You should double check for help before completely stopping, you may have done better than you realise. I've not moved on the scales but I'm in clothes that didn't fit at the start of lockdown.

I would encourage anyone who wanted to loose weight to join the low carb bootcamp threads here in MN. Lots of support and a plan that really does work.

DH was classified as T2 diabetic and using low carb is no longer so. Doctor was very surprised and still makes him do annual blood tests but it's all good.

Low carb is now recommended by https://www.diabetes.co.uk and I am sure the NHS will get there someday , too.

The calories in some of joe wicks recipes are massive.

I think they are high because they are twinned with quite intense exercise
