Is Slimming world any good?

I have heard mixed reviews about slimming world but have seen in local shop a 7 day starter pack and wondered if anyone has had them and if there any good or can recommend something similar? been trying to lose the mum tum for ages but i just love food too much haha.

I don't agree with the premise, muller lites are 1 syn and an avacodo is 8 or something bizarre like that

Is there something else that i could try that is better?

I hate slimming world, I found the groups excruciatingly awful and also hated the plan.

It involves either cooking everything from scratch or eating a whole load of crappy processed stuff, they love artificial sweeteners. I've seen some horrific recipes like diet coke chicken, why would you want to cook your meat in a weird chemical bath with artificial sweeteners.

I found calorie counting using My Fitness Pal much better as it gives you more flexibility, if you want a McDonalds or some booze you just make sure you account for it.

Hiya, yeah i have got a calorie counting app on my phone and i need to get back into exercising again, just heard some people had lost a bit of weight through doing slimming world, might just have to stick to my calorie counting app :)

If you can block out the silliness and look at the premise of less fat, more veg and a reasonable amount of dairy & fibre based carbs...
When you start trying to make your old habits from strange ingredients, stop! Nobody needs a Canderel meringue or a Weight Watchers wrap pasty...

I agree with the above. I’ve lost quite a bit following slimming world and find the plan really works for me. However I never cook or eat the substitutes for real food. I’d rather go without than have a fake donut or barely edible ice cream. The actual focus on more veg and protein though, although common sense, works for me

I've done it after both pregnancies and really like it.

I like to cook and once I knew the basics it was easy to adapt things to fit the plan. I also liked that you can do it while breastfeeding and worked with my dairy free lifestyle.

I also liked that rice, pasta and potatoes are free. My husband is 6'7 and it meant I could fill him up with those

I found it very helpful. Of course I could have just done MFP on my phone, but I found Weighing in at meetings was an incentive, and if I ever missed a meeting due to no weight loss then my leader would text me to ask me how I was doing and encouraged me to come next week. Not sure how well they are doing this online? I think you just need to adapt the diet to your own eating habits. I’ve lost the weight now, but find that calorie controlled dieting is only useful when I have enough incentive to do it on my own.

Thankyou all, i did start exercising every morning and eating healthy at the beginning of lockdown but then i let myself down by having a takeaway then just stopped from there haha, i think i will just stick to calorie controlled diet and exercising again :)

It works for me. I like food (particularly carb heavy foods) and the fact that I can eat unlimited amounts of lots of foods and still lose weight suits me. I was 12 and a half stone (5’3”) when I started and lost 2 stone within a year and a half - I could have done it more quickly but allowed myself plenty of treat days along the way and don’t believe in limiting anything if I’m out/ on holiday etc. I’ve put a stone of that back on now, mostly in lockdown, but feel confident that I’ll lose that quickly as soon as I go back.

The magazine is really good for recipes - maybe buy that and see what you think.

Agree with the no barmy artificial ingredients but focus on a balanced diet. What appeals is when you fall off the wagon the first I did do is have a big ‘free food nosh’ because I am hungry, that’s why I fell off the wagon. With calorie counting I would have felt it would be a long stretch to the next meal.

I’ve not done it myself but I’ve heard lots of good things about it and know maybe 2/3 people who’ve done it and lost plenty of weight .

I am currently giving it a go, only on day 4 but I like it. I like that I can have chocolate in the evening, so I try to make all my meals free which I have found quite easy so far.

It's because avocados are full of 'good' fat. They are a great, healthy food for those who have to gain weight but aren't great for losing it. Coconut yoghurt is another similar one.

Ignore the ridiculous recipes and eat as clean as you can and it’s fine.
Plenty of fruit and vegetables, watch your fats and fibre. Drink water.
