You can eat well without sweetener. I have sweetener in my coffee and some low cal yoghurt, but mostly I eat veg, fruit, complex carbs, meat. That's what the core plan is about. You can have full fat yogurts and sugar if you like and syn them. I have skyr natural yoghurt a lot and I don't think that has sweeteners? We have full fat milk, cheese and butter. I've lost over 3 stone.

We have olive oil in a spray can for family cooking although I do use fry light sometimes when it's just for me.

Look at the Two Chubby Cubs website. It has meals that use proper food. Use your syns on full fat yoghurt and oil. I use oil spray instead of fry light and don't eat flavoured yoghurts. I flavour them with maple syrup or just fruit.

Yearofthemum · 24/01/2019 19:50

Me. I use onken low fat natural yogurt and sometimes syn it - no thickeners, and 60cals per100g. It's nice and creamy too.

I use bertoli oil spray, and sometimes small quantities of actual oil.

I don't eat pretty much any processed or fake food, other than stock cubes. I avoid sweeteners,, but do use a little of my own jam or sometimes honey if I need it in something eg quark as a pudding.

I think I eat less meat in my meals than some, and I'm careful to mix in lots of veg . I eat wholemeal, and some pulse based meals. I avoid bacon because I worry about the nitrosamines.

Sometimes I don't lose, but that's for other reasons eg wine or meals out. Mostly I do. And I'm post menopausal, so would expect to lose more slowly.

SnowWhite26 · 24/01/2019 20:00

Thanks everyone. Do you use sugar in recipes instead of sweetner? And also small amounts of real butter? The other one that got me was wholemeal not granary? What is in quark?

I try to avoid sugar in general and avoid substitutes. I am trying to get to the point where I have the control to have a little of full fat. I have natural yogurt with a little honey and syn it, rather than mullerlights etc. I also avoid anything like mug shots etc.

Sforsh49 · 24/01/2019 20:09

Don't use sweetener, don't use fry light as IMO it ruins your pans and dishes. I use a little bit of oil in a spray or if I'm making spaghetti Bol I'll use a bit of water or frozen onions to fry off the meat. If something has a bit of sweetener in a recipe I just miss it out eg if it's a tablespoon, or for rice pudding I'll just use Half Spoon Sugar (twice as sweet so use half the amount) and just Syn it. Works out fine.

Sforsh49 · 24/01/2019 20:10

Quark is food of the devil. Nothing good comes from a Quark tub. People in my group put sugar free vimto in it (seriously) and then eat it like yoghurt Envy

Yearofthemum · 24/01/2019 20:18

No, jam rather than sugar, but same calories. If you use it, count it as a syn within your allowance. I personally have my bread without butter, but I use things like hummus etc so don't need it. I'm used to dry bread with eggs on for breakfast if I'm having eggs. The eggs cover the bread anyway. You can count butter as syns.
Quark is a sort of thick soft cheese like Philadelphia, hut it's free. I sometimes eat it with yogurt or on its own with flavourings. Eg cocoa or lemon and honey. Or even in savoury food instead of cream. It's quite filling.

Yearofthemum · 24/01/2019 20:21

And quark is no different or worse than natural yogurt.

SnowWhite26 · 24/01/2019 20:50

Sounds horrible haha not sure ill try quark. Thanks everybody for ur advice. I dont wana drink diet drinks either. X

Avoid jarsmof pasta sauce etc. Use passata etc and add herbs, onions etc.

galison · 25/01/2019 12:50

yes I cook from scratch most of the time using whole ingredients. I use fat free plain greek yogurt or skyr which wouldn't have any rubbish in it. Don't have the muller lights or anything. If I want some sweetness in my porridge I add a few raisins or a smidge of honey and syn it. I have full fat milk or semi for my porridge using the additional HEA you get now or use it to make my own sauces with a bit of cornflour which I syn (like peppercorn sauce, curry sauce or cheese sauce etc). I find that extra HEA really helps. A lot of the crap like Mugshots (which I do maybe have one a week) and pasta and sauce etc are synned now anyway. Don't bother with HiFi bars and wouldn't be making all the fake eggy sweetener cakes either. I find butter has too many syns for me so use the lighter versions like Lurpak which just have more water in them as opposed to the low fat spreads which have all sorts in. I also use the light mayo which I would rather not do but again I find the full fat one just too synny. I might only have it once or twice a week so I am not that bothered about it. I generally use my syns on a full size flake or Twirl in the evening rather and have done with it rather than picking at hifi bars, chocolate drinks, treatsize etc which just don't satisfy me.

Magmatic80 · 26/01/2019 21:26

Me. I spend my syns on butter and olive oil for cooking, hate frylight. Those hi fi bars are rank. I have a jacket potato with butter for lunch every day and don’t go near any of the synthetic rubbish. I don’t understand the point of the Iceland chunky chips that everyone raves over, just make them at home!

SW works for me because I replaced daily empty calorie snacks habit with fruit and raw veg.

HarrySnotter · 27/01/2019 12:30

I don't use low fat yoghurts or anything, or the Hi Fi bars. I don't take sugar in drinks so that's easy to avoid.

I have a box of treats in the fridge (Freddo bars, wispa bites etc) and I've written on the top of the box how many syns is in each thing. I'd rather have a little bit of what I fancy and syn in. Homemade pasta sauces are a million times nicer than anything you'll buy too. Only two and half weeks in to SW for my but have lost 7.5 lbs so far.

Yearofthemum · 27/01/2019 14:21

One thing I do, regardless of whether I'm on SW or not, is make an absolute vat of proper tomato sauce. I use tinned whole tomatoes or fresh tomatoes in the summer. I use olive oil and garlic, tomatoes, sometimes a splash of wine if the tomatoes aren't sweet enough. Seasoning of herbs and salt/pepper. I cook it for 1-1.5 hours. I might use a jam pan for this.

Then I divide it into portions, and even the teens sometimes defrost it to eat with pasta (and plenty of cheese in their case). It's really convenient to always have it in, ready to be whacked in the microwave if I've had a long day, for example.

Great tips! Thanks x
