Is SW right for me?

I’ve been wanting to lose some weight for a while but my problem is that my body is naturally quite slim (size 8-10) except my stomach. I have a proper pot belly that I can’t lose whatever I do, and I’ve always had one but it’s just got worse as I’ve got older. I haven’t had any pregnancies or DC’s but if I don’t wear high waisted jeans and suck it all in day to day, people assume I am pregnantSad which is quite embarrassing and also upsetting as I’m currently TTC. A lot of people at work are on SW and I’d like to try it but unsure if it would suit me? I have an active job and do a little weight lifting and running when I can fit it in. I know you can’t decide where to lose weight but I thought I would do a little research and try it to see if it could help me. Any thoughts?

Why SW particularly? Losing weight boils down to expending more calories than you consume. Could you track your daily calories and try to increase fruit and veg?

Personally I don’t like SW. processed Hifi bars as a healthy extra?? There also seem to be a lot of double standards - SW meals are ‘free’ yet supermarket own brand healthy ready meals with less fat, calories, sugar content are synned?
You can’t spot lose fat but perhaps eating better combined with exercise may help tone up.

See, I think that it's all down to preference. I'm only a month into slimming world and I've lost a stone.. Well, tomorrow us weight in day so I'm expecting/hoping to have lost that last pound or more I need. That said, before I started slimming world I lost two stone by cutting out white carbs, excess sugar and drinking 3ltr of water a day. So honestly you'll never know it's for you unless you try. I'll definitely try and help along the way! Smile

I've been wondering about SW too, as everyone I know seems to lose a shedload of weight on it. Maybe it's the accountability of having to weigh in each week?

noodlenosefraggle · 02/12/2018 15:26

O think you might be too slim for SW. It works brilliantly of you are quite overweight but not so much when you have a few lbs to lose our want to change shape. Have you tried drinking loads of water (3litres?) or trying to see what is causing b the bloat, like white carbs?

Thank you all for the replies! I think like pp said, it’s the accountability aspect that appeals and also the fact that lots of people around me are doing it. But I do understand that it probably works better for people with more to lose and maybe I should look at something else. Thanks for the food for thought though Grin

Slimming world is awful.

A kilo of pasta and 10 diet cokes, my you have done so well.

A cocktail sausage and a pint of milk, tut tut. Yoy must count those syns.

It has taken me about 10 years to get over the sw propoganda.

JustWingingLifeAsUsual · 03/12/2018 18:08

@OhioOhioOhio here here! I actually felt worse on slimming world than my current way of eating. I eat sensibly now and have treats now and again. It took me a long time to stop counting syns for it but I feel more satisfied! I no longer drink fizzy pop, I have a proper brew with sugar instead of using horrendous sweeteners in my tea and coffee and I use olive oil as well.... I feel more energetic and I've maintained for months as well!

OwlinaTree · 04/12/2018 22:23

justwinging and Ohio there's no requirement to drink fizzy drinks or go without olive oil to follow SW. Equally you should eat to your appetite and fill half the plate with veg so how would you eat a kilo of pasta? SW works and is healthy eating if you follow it properly.

Liskee · 05/12/2018 12:51

It's not all about overflowing plates of pasta and Diet Coke ffs. Spend some time learning the programme and actually doing it before you criticise.

I've lost 3.5 stone in the last 6 months. Slow, steady weight loss following a programme that encourages lots of fruit and veg, with balanced carbs, protein and dairy. Treats and alcohol are perfectly allowable, but in small healthy amounts. Water drinking is encouraged, as is exercise (and you don't get to eat more just because you went for a walk).

All that taken into avoiding I think as a PP poster said it's not the diet for people who want to only lose small amounts or change their shape. I'd recommend targeted exercise for that.

Liskee · 05/12/2018 12:51

Account, not avoiding, sorry.
