Can I do Slimming World? (health issues)

Cannot seem to find out what the meals in Slimming World mainly consist of, I need to lose weight desparately but there are a whole load of foods that I just cannot eat or I get ill. I seem to imagine Slimming World is full of lettuce and peppers! Grin

I have IBS, bile salt malabsorption and lactose intolerance. Also have fibro, arthritis and coronary artery spasm so exercise is limited to walking and swimming.

I am 48, weigh 11st 11 lbs and am 5ft 3 tall short

Now, the tricky part, I cannot eat:

lettuce of any kind, last time I had some, I vomited/diarrhoea all night
peppers
celery
mango
cucumber
nuts
onions
apples
orange juice
yoghurts, unless they are lacto free
cream
granary breads
soft cheeses (ok with Cheddar)

I am ok with

tomatoes in moderation
carrots
beetroot
swede
bananas

I keep reading about these Speed Foods but do now know what they consist of, am I going to struggle with Slimming World?

TIA

I put onions in most things and have salad with most meals, but thats only because i like them and can eat them. If you dont then you dont include them, here is no sw rule that says you have to eat lettuce and onions.
So the basics are that each meal must contain 1/3 of super free food (most fruit and veg but the book will confirm which are and arent super free) and 2/3 free food which is lean meat or fish (all visible fat and skin removed and cooked without oil) and either rice, pasta, potatos or eggs).
Each day you must have a portion of fibre high food as your healthy option B. This group is measured and includes whole meal bread (not granary), cereal or nuts. Again the book will explain which ones you can have and how much.
And then there's your daily portion of calcium rich food, your healthy option A. Again this is measured and includes milk (i always use the lactose free milk koko as i hate normal milk) or cheese.
Snacks are encouraged to prevent hunger. These can be fruit or fat free yogs (im pretty sure some lactose free options are included). Herbs and spices can be used freely, and food must be cooked with frylight instead of oil, low cal sweetner is also free to use. Tea coffee and sugar free drinks are ok. Thats the basics. Anything else, absolutely anything must be synned, of which you get 10 a day.
I find myself eating the same kind of meals but i just use different products and cook them differently now. All of my meals are cooked from scratch with nothing out of a bag or box.
My day yesterday, typical day.
B) fruit and natural yogurt for breakie as was running late but i would normally have egg or mushrooms on toast (HEB)
L) 1/2 Crustless quiesh (think thats how you spell it) made with 3 eggs, fat free cottage cheese, lots of veggies and ham, served with salad and sprinkled with 40g of lf cheddar (HEA)
D) skinless and seasoned chicken drumsticks served with sw chips and left over salad (spring onions, beetroot, grated carrots and sliced peppers).with a big dollop of home made free bar b q sauce
Snacks were 2 hifi cereal bars (HEB) as i hadnt used my bread for breakie or lunch.
I flexi syn at the weekend and i had none left lol.
So in answer yes you can do it with health issues or food intolerances (im allergic to a loyt of fruit) but its always advised to consult your dr first.

Thank you so much for that informative reply, I think I am going give it a go, I have found a meeting near me at a convenient time and day. I am really unhappy with the way i look (large size 14, apple shaped, great legs and bum but massive gut) and hate the feeling when clothes are tight. I also need to eat better as my cholesterol is abominable! Just got back from hol and there is a pic of me in a too tight tshirt and shorts , I cried when I saw itBlush

Then once you have the ok go for it hun.
I had a severe leg injury a few years back and balloned from a healthy active size 10 to 12 to a very unhealthy size 18 to 20 in a year. Huge weight gain and as im a shortie, massively unhealthy.
I had an op and started physio and could hardly walk but still lost two and a half stone on sw and i managed to keep most of it off.
However due to stress and a bad year last year a atone has slipped back on and im a size 16 again and back to old habits, completely my fault.
So im back on it and determined to loose the last 2 (and added one) stone and be back to my pre injury weight of just undet 9 stone (size 10) by the end of the year.
Three week weigh in today and ive dropped another 2lb (so 9lb in total) and ive started to remember how easy it is. Im less sluggish, sleep better, can focus more at work and 3 people this week have told me how well im looking Grin
Some slag off sw and dont understand how you can eat so much and loose weight. Its simple really. Three balanced low fat meals. Healthier snacks and filling up on non processed, clean food. I still struggle to exercise and have to be careful but i walk to work and back during the week (25 miles a week) and im cooking and planning alot more so i would defo advise it op.

maybe have a look at 5:2 intermitted fasting.
has the advantage that fasting can lower inflammation in general and the rest of the food is not restrictive as long as you are sensible with portion sizes.

tabulahrasa · 08/07/2018 07:02

Speed free foods are certain (lowest calorie) fruits and veg that should be making up 1/3 of your portions and yes they do include peppers and lettuce, but also carrot, beetroot and swede...

If a recipe included things you can’t have like onions then you’re fine to just leave them out like you would now, or swap ingredients you can’t have for other free ones you can have.

PreoccupiedPorcupine · 08/07/2018 10:29

Thanks everyone, I will see how I get on.

Regarding the 5:2 fasting, I have tried to do that 3 times over the last couple of years, and I just cannot do it, I seem to have a problem with my blood sugar I think and I end up feeling awful and nearly fainting. I get headache, shakes, blurred vision and very hangry. I dont have diabetes or anything, my blood test was ok.

I suffer hangry and blood sugar issues. I find reducing carbs to very low and only using complex carbs (brown rice etc) I can control my blood sugars much more effectively. This works well on slimming world. I've lost 3 1/2 stone and kept it off over a year so it is doable.

Good luck
