2nd week and thinking of throwing in the towel

Really fed up. I followed it to the letter again this week. Have just weighed and have put on a bloody pound! Overall loss 1lb and that's probably only because I didn't wear my jeans last week. I've successfully done SW before and lost just under 4 stone but that was when it was red and green days. Please motivate me as I feel like crying.

Have a read of the other thread on here titles something like what am I doing wrong?
Maybe do a post with what you have been eating and some wise MNetters may be able to give you a few pointers.

Why not go back to the red and green days? (I used to do almost all green)..if it worked then no reason why it won't still work for you, whatever the updated plan is (too complicated for me).

violet0805 · 26/05/2018 09:33

I know how you feel. I've been back at sw (for the 20th time) since February and I've lost 12lb. I was desperate to get 2lb off for my 1 stone award and had a completely 100% week. Even went to my friends baby shower and didn't touch a thing. Did everything I should, lots of speed food, water etc... and put on 0.5lb.
I was absolutely gutted and convinced sw doesn't work for me and was going to give up.
I have PCOS so my losses are small and slow.
Don't know whether to call it a day or not. Doesn't seem worth it for 12lb in 3 months.

NapoleonsNose · 26/05/2018 09:49

I honestly don't know why it's not working anymore. I'm 46 and peri-menopausal so think that might have something to do with it.

It does get harder each time round..you don't lose as quickly as you did first time.

Humphriescushion · 26/05/2018 10:15

I feel your pain napoleon, I started a week ago and stayed the same, despite following it religously! Posted on another thread about this yesterday and that thread re- motivated for another week. I would normally lose around 2lb in the first week and has always worked. My husband lost 6lb and is made up!

So am going to do another week, up my superspeed foods and give it another go.
Hope you have some losses soon, but it is very disheartening! Good luck

It’s not working for either of you (I’ve been there, done that!)... time to try something different, perhaps something that can form part of a permanent lifestyle change, after the weight loss?

PCOS, peri menopause... I’d suggest giving a low carb, high fat WOE ( way of eating) a try. The stabilisation/normalisation of blood sugar and metabolism with this WOE should help health wise as well as for weight loss.

Marksdailyapple blog, robbwolf.com, dietdoctor (lchf) are all useful free sources of info. The emphasis is on fresh, unprocessed foods, sufficient protein and plenty of (Natural) fats.

There are excellent low carb and low carb boot-camp threads on here.

NapoleonsNose · 26/05/2018 10:39

I've tried low carb and whilst it was moderately successful, I found it quite limiting and therefore, for me, unsustainable long term. I really missed fruit and the occasional chocolate treat.

I work in an office and sit in my bum all day. I think I need to add in some exercise as well to see if that speeds things up a bit.

violet0805 - I have PCOS too but luckily SW seems to work well for me..Have you looked at the GI diet..that's recommended for people with PCOS?

TammySwansonTwo · 26/05/2018 10:46

If you’re genuinely restricting your intake and not losing weight, I would consider getting some blood tests done (it could well be menopause related but could also be thyroid and a host of other things)

NapoleonsNose · 26/05/2018 10:58

I was thinking of getting some bloods done Tammy. My periods are ridiculously heavy and long which I know can be a sign of thyroid problems. I'm going to give it another couple of weeks, stick to it religiously and see what happens.

I have some chocolate almost every day on Lchf diet... it would be a cold day in hell before I gave up chocolate! Grin.
It needs to be dark, preferably above 80% and that does get a bit of getting used to. Once the tastebuds adjust to dark, Cadbury/galaxy etc taste massively over sweet and seriously lacking in cocoa deliciousness.

TammySwansonTwo · 26/05/2018 11:29

I think it’s a good idea to check - do you have any other symptoms? There are many and you may not have realised it’s related.

You’re about the age where most cases of hypothyroidism are diagnosed - that’s usually because it takes many years of symptoms and problems to get help and / or for levels on blood tests to fall out of range sufficiently.

NapoleonsNose · 26/05/2018 12:32

I have dry skin, although I do have that anyway, hardly any sex drive and am pretty tired a lot of the time. Will make an appointment next week.

Update to this...

I lost 4lbs this week!! Reckon it was water retention the week before. Going to keep plodding on and hope this week sees another loss.

Excellent well done on your 4lb loss!
