Is it normal that the only agenda of the meeting seems to be is going around the room congratulating everyone on their individual loss?

I have been to my local silmming world a few times but all the meeting agenda seems to be is going around the room congratulating everyone on their individual loss (you still worked hard etc, if a gain). I don't feel like I get anything out of the meeting at all. No advice, no talks. Obviously there is the weighing and paying first but the meeting is blah. Anyone else experience this with other meetings or do I just have a weird one??

I like going to a different group now as the consultant is fun and knows everyone personally. She knows who to skim over and to not pressure you into talking for ages. I hate talking in front of everyone.

I don't like it when a consultant spends a lot of time on a member who cries over the fact that they've gained and that it was due to a weekend away in a caravan as per HotSauceCommittee's post

LadyWithLapdog · 09/04/2018 14:59

HotSauceCommittee Grin cruel but accurate

chandlersfraud · 09/04/2018 15:18

Yes OP this was my experience. Couldn't believe how much time was spent on this and then it was it!! And the leader was looking at/inputting into an iPad so didn't even look as if she was listening to the answer.

Was amazed having done weight watchers and getting a lot out of those meetings.

GU24Mum · 09/04/2018 15:21

Glad it wasn't just me who thought that!! The one I went to did it pretty much alphabetically.......... and if you have a surname at the end of the alphabet, that makes for a tedious hour!

GoldilocksAndTheThreePears · 09/04/2018 15:44

This is why I miss Rosemary Conley groups so much, weigh in then 40 min or so of aerobics with other women of all sizes, occasionally men too. I really struggled with all the gym-bunnies in other aerobic classes in gyms, this felt more normal and doable. Then a brief talk about various weightloss and health things, like importance of drinking water etc. All for the cost of a SW or WW class. And then it went under, such a shame.

Kezzie200 · 09/04/2018 16:06

Yeah, what do they actually put into the iPad? First week I thought it was weekly target to refer to next week, but, no....

I now assume she must be playing bejeweled?

LadyWithLapdog · 09/04/2018 16:53

I guess they input the weight losses and gains and report in some way to HQ.

FrozenMargarita17 · 09/04/2018 17:06

Ha I once tried to ask my consultant something when a meeting had finished and she looked at me as if to say 'why are you wasting my time?' Guess they're only interested when they're doing their spiel.

cloudyweewee · 09/04/2018 18:38

I think SW meetings are so utterly crap. I have been to many different groups over the years and never found a Consultant who swayed from the 'go round the group and speak to each person' formula. It's so bloody tedious. WW meetijngs are better, IMO, but at the last one i went to, one of the members who considered himself to be a 'character' kept shouting out and trying to make jokes so in the end I left. I need to do something, though, because I am seriously porky right now and don;t have the motivation to lose weight on my own.

raisedbyguineapigs · 09/04/2018 19:14

I'm curious about WW meetings. How are they different? I quite like my meetings sometimes, but mostly because I chat to people and then flick through the magazines. I thought all groups were like that. Whenever I get home from SW meetings, my DH always does the Little Britain Fat fighters sketch! I thought all the meetings were like that Grin

cloudyweewee · 09/04/2018 20:06

WW meetings are much shorter. The leader might ask who's had a good week or if anyone has tips to share, then they will give a talk/lead a ddiscussion about a specific topic. Every week you are given a little booklet and usually the talk is linked to that. It might be about how to fit exercise into your day, how to survive when eating out etc

raisedbyguineapigs · 09/04/2018 21:00

Oh that sounds much more worth #5!

anxious2017 · 09/04/2018 21:04

I've been to four different groups locally, all with different people running them and they're all dire. I don't give a flying fig how much Karen has put on this week because she ate ten pizzas and a horse, nor Susan's recipe for syn free chocolate cake using nothing but sawdust and a muller light.

I really do wish there was a decent group around, as I think if I was well motivated, I might stand more of a chance at not remaining a hippo.

Paperdolly · 10/04/2018 11:53

Anxious... 😂. I'd love the sawdust n muller light chocolate cake recipe if you have it please. 😂

Groovee · 10/04/2018 13:45

My old consultant raved about Scan bran cake. She made it for taster and it was awful.

I made slimming eats one and baking in the oven was way easier, than the microwave. Even my consultant grudgingly agreed they were good 😂

In my defence I was on a high dose of iron tablets and the cake helped me go to the loo 😂

windchimesabotage · 10/04/2018 13:48

Mine was really good! Shed go round individually and congratulate people and then ask if they had any advice about what they had been doing. Then shed ask if anyone wanted to share what they had found difficult. Then she would do a bit of a pep talk and maybe talk about a particular subject like 'what to do when you are on a night out to keep on plan'
I lost loads of weight with her!
I also attended a different class once and the guy was not anywhere near as good so I do think it can be luck of the draw. Some consultants are way better than others!

Tjsweet · 16/04/2018 14:03

This is an interesting topic as my wife is a slimming world consultant, albeit for only 9 months, and she is always looking to make meetings interesting whilst running them in line with what slimming world dictate. I help out at class so can understand how they can be a little boring but (and I maybe bias) I feel she has a good rapport with her members and is generally interested in helping people meet their goals.

Parker231 · 16/04/2018 14:10

I never stayed for the meeting. I’m not interested in whether someone lost or gained or what amazing things they cooked with a leek! I also don’t have an evening to waste each week. I went for the discipline of getting weighed. I can read the book or go online if I need ideas on meal plans.

Jakadaal · 16/04/2018 15:37

I spend my class writing my food menu for the week then doing my online shop. We have a fab consultant and there’s lots of hints and tips.

I agree about the taster sessions - I picked up a piece of the infamous quiche last week and there was a black hair in itEnvy

Coveredinbeeeeeeeeeeeees · 16/04/2018 15:49

I've been to two different groups and they were both the same - boring as fuck. One of the reasons I stopped going. I started to feel like I was paying a fiver just to stand on the scales, I can do that at home for free!

Coveredinbeeeeeeeeeeeees · 16/04/2018 15:53

Oh, and I saw my consultant for the group I haven't been to for four years at the supermarket, she was massively overweight 4 years ago and is still the same now, and is still a consultant. Not motivating in the slightest! I don't expect them to be skinny snd model-like but I would expect them to be slim, you know, since it's called slimming World.... I wouldn't be able to take her seriously at group.

ICantCopeAnymore · 16/04/2018 15:54

The best meeting I went to was one where she only called out the names of the people who had won awards not every single other fucking person at the meeting. That meant it took about 10 minutes and she was able to move on to the motivating stuff, unlike the other groups where it took over an hour to call everyone and by the time they were done, the next group were coming in and we had to leave.

PavlovaPrincess · 16/04/2018 17:09

This was why I stopped going to the meetings and did it online instead.

The only group that was convenient was in a town centre and it was massive. Must have been between 30-40 people going every week. Took an hour to weigh everyone then an hour and a half to go round and see what everyone had lost.

It was effing tedious.

Tjsweet · 16/04/2018 21:41

It's a shame some peoples experience has not been a good one as the plan does work and with the right consultant people can get the support, ideas and motivation they need. After all the reason people join groups in the first place is because they've tried on their own and have struggled, for whatever reason. I do agree though that perhaps SW need to look at how they structure their meetings as they can be a tad dull Wink

Kezzie200 · 17/04/2018 05:47

Definitely. If more than half are leaving a session they should ask why.it might simply be they wouldnt stay anyway but my feelings are that most think the round room repetitive discussion is boring and a waste of time.

The plus is difficult if you have to use syns on higher good fat things. I basically get no syns now as I eat dates, avocado and honey. I would think id be better on WW for that reason, but as I'm loosing slowly on what feels like "my own" and meetings are boring, i'm going to leave.

I joined simply to keep me going (id last a complete of stones on my own) and thought it would be good support but its a bit rubbish tbh
