Slimming World

Convince me that I should join

I really need to lose weight but I've always hated the idea of a slimming club.
I'm now my heaviest ever at 16 stone.
Dm has spent my whole life attending these clubs, gives up then goes back again. I remember going with her as a young child and it sends shivers down my spine to think of it.
I'm not confident in group situations so would be scared to go along. But I'm seriously considering joining now.
Can someone convince me it's not as bad as I'm imagining it to be. I hate all the terms they use that I've listened to dm say over the years - syns and body magic, ugh!
I hate it at work when some people just go in and on about losing weight and what they're eating. I find it so bloody tedious. Talk about something else ffs.
So can anyone convince me it won't be as horrific as I'm imagining it'll be?

It's what you make it really. You can get really involved in the group, join in discussions etc, or you can go and sit and listen, or you can weigh and go. I stay to group so I can talk to others about weight loss and I don't have to bore everyone around me with it!

It's healthy eating for life really. I find it easy to follow and I've lost almost 3 stone. Someone will be along in a minute to tell you to log everything onto mfp and calorie count but that's too much faff for me, sw is so much easier to follow!

Good luck!

I felt quite similar but as soon as the weight started falling off I put aside my reservations and began to enjoy it. As the pp has said, it needs to be approached as healthy eating for life, and you need to be honest with yourself and count syns etc for the a while. It's easy to cheat and load up on carbs but the science behind it says that if you do it properly it does work! I've lost 12lb in 7 weeks, hoping to achieve a stone by next weigh in. Delighted!

I really do think I need to pluck up the courage to do this.
Just need to leave my negative thoughts about it behind and bite the bullet I guess.

I'm over 2 stone down with another few to go. I stay to group and actually really enjoy it. I live in a smallish town where everyone's face is known and the thought of joining used to horrify me. A friend said she was going so I went along thinking how I could tell her it was shite at the end. Turns out it wasn't shite. Go. You will be made very welcome

I was at my heaviest last year. Lost a stone on my own. But gained 5lbs back in Dec due to birthdays and Christmas.

Then in January, I went along to my local class. Got chatting to some people there. 23 weeks later, I'm 2st 12.5lb down. I had 26 weeks to my holiday and planned to lose 1lb a week yet I've done so much better.

Planning is the key for me, have tried so many new recipes and got my mojo for cooking. Have managed to get my crisp addiction from 21 packets of crisps a week to 4!

My class was odd at first but it's a nice wee group who stay and get some great tips and ideas and the Facebook page is fab for when you are feeling low or needing ideas.

I don't have hundreds of Muller lights or unlimited mugshots but there's lot of fresh food going on and my eating is far better than it was due to sheer laziness.

You've got to be ready to embrace it. It is a change in how you eat and relationship with food.

I hate diets and that's why I do SlimmingWorld world - i eat generally the good things I ate before just cooked healthier with no oil, fat and more vegetables. Stop snacking on chocolate and biscuits. Not having to weight everything makes it feel less of a diet and more way of life
