Ive just read on another thread that someone gave up Diet Coke and found that helped weight loss.
Am I missing something, isn't Diet Coke free?
I don't drink a lot of it myself but sometimes it's what I need to satisfy my sugar craving.

So I guess just out of interest really, will Diet Coke affect weight loss in a negative way?

There is some evidence that the sweeteners etc used in diet drinks trick the brain into making you want to eat more - can't remember the science but if you google you might find something.

Yes, there was something on tv last year that said that the body reacted to the level of sweetness in the same way as sugar - tricked your body and then led to it being unable to process sugar properly

I've read the above too somewhere BUT I drink Coke zero daily and have lost a lot of weight, so... it wouldn't surprise if it causes fluid retention on some level though.

Weight loss really does just come down to eating less calories unfortunately.

I am a mega diet coke guzzler and have been for at least 15 years to be honest... I just hate the feel of sugary drinks on my teeth. I have three cans a day and am very much in a routine with it and have not experienced any weight loss issues as a result. I think my loss to date has been quite typical. I reckon if I wasn't so routined with my consumption and just guzzled randomly my body might react differently and I might experience more hunger like another poster suggests though!

I read the opposite that if you avoid sweeteners as well as sugar your body asks for sweetness. The sweetener tricks your brain into a sugar fix!

I'm torn on this. I know sugary drinks are really bad but I worry that excessive amounts of sweetener cause lots of problems too. I found think link for nerd fitness which looks at the myths and truths around diet drinks. Personally I'm doing SW and losing weight but I try to chose water most often and have any fizzy drinks as a treat, maybe a couple of times a week. I already get a fair bit of caffeine from tea.

Somewhere on tinternet (proven) there's evidence that sweetners have the same reaction as sugar in the body, causing insulin rises etc and thus stopping fat burning. It was on a diet programme recently.

Beware Diet Coke Addicts!
After years of drinking 3/4 cans a day, my dentist told me the reason my teeth were disintegrating was because of my soft drink habit. It's not only the sugar that does the harm, it's also the carbonation (ie, the fizz!).
I am now looking at upwards of £12k to have my teeth fixed.................

I've recently given up Diet Coke (well Pepsi Max) I was having 4/5 cans per day and feel so good for giving it up. I've had 2 cans in a week so early days but watching this with interest!

I used to drink full fat Coke about once every couple of months before SW but would eat sweets daily
I now have maybe 1 can of Diet Coke a week and no sweets
The Diet Coke seems to satisfy my sweet tooth if it rears its ugly head.

It can't be any worse than the amount of haribos I used to eat. Looking back now I can't believe i would think nothing of polishing off a big bag of tangfastics in one sitting BlushBlush
