Slimming World

Is SW any good for vegetarians?

Hi. I have a lot of weight to lose (4+ stone) and i'm thinking of joining SW next week. I've previously lost weight with WW but, 2 babies later, i need to lose it again and i'm bored of weighing and calculating points. Friends have recommended SW as a good alternative. BUT is it any good for vegetarians? I don't eat fish and dislike ready meals. How does it work? What kind of meals/food will i be eating? Worried about joining and then realising it's not suitable!

Hello, barney.
Yes, Slimming World is suitable for vegetarians.
Your consultant will explain the full plan when you join, but to give you an idea of what you could be eating, go to the Slimming World website, click on "healthy eating", then on "free 7 day menu", then choose the vegetarian option.
I'm not vegetarian, but have lots of veggie meals: those are my favourite SW recipes.
Hope this helps.

YES! Grin I'm a vegan and I love it!!!!! There's a great veggie slimming world cook book but I find most things can be adapted to suit. You will love it ! Yes you are limited on things like cheese but have free rein on lots of other stuff I've fallen back in love again with beans pulses and tofu. I have 5 stone to lose and its working well for me if I stay off the chocolate and biscuits

Yes it's fine. Most Quorn products are 'free' (ie can eat loads) - as is pasta, rice, baked beans, potatoes. Good luck! It is much less faff than WW.

Thanks. I joined last night so have been reading through all the stuff today to make sense of it. Hard to believe that you can lose weight yet eat loads of pasta etc....

I know Barney, but it seems to work. I also don't understand how baked beans are 'free', considering the sugar in them, but who am I to question such things?... Good luck!

I lost 3 stone with SW a few years ago, when they did red/green days. I understand that these have changed to "Extra Easy" now , I think, but there's still free food. I believe that the idea behind "free foods" is that you fill up on stuff that is bulky and filling at meal times and eat to satisfaction, rather than scrimping on portion size and scoffing biscuits later. It doesn't mean you can eat pasta all day!!!

I found that a jacket spud with beans and cottage cheese (all free foods then) was a really handy cafe meal.

Had to share one of my fav sauces that my vegetarian daughter also loves

Curry sauce
Big handful of lentils
250ml water
Vegetable stock cube
Tin of carrots
1 chopped onion
Curry powder - your own preference

Cook until soft and then blitz down

Perfect with Quorn chicken/ mushrooms/ or just over sw chips

I make a big batch on a Sunday for lunches during the week

Thanks for the ideas and encouragement! I have to admit that i found the first 3 days really hard, mainly because i had no idea what i was doing! My SW meeting finishes at 9pm so i was straight into the next day, Day One, without having had time to read through the literature. So it took me the next day (fitting it in around children) to work it all out and then another day to meal plan and place an online food shop etc. But i've had 2 days now of following the plan properly and then another 2 days until weigh in. So i hope i'll have managed to lose a couple of pounds in that time.

I think once i've had a week or two of following the plan then it'll be easier because i'm keeping a record of what i eat so can just repeat a lot of the meals/snacks.

I joined a couple of weeks ago and found the same thing barney! By the time I'd got home after the meeting and eaten my non sw tea I had to order extra stuff which took a day to come! I've never been on any kind of diet before so had to get fat free yogurt/salad dressing etc, sweetener, All bran, fry light all in specially! I have eaten loads of food in the last couple of weeks but lost 3.5 lb last week. I've found bread the hardest thing to do without as it makes such quick, easy lunches.
