8 stone to lose, is this possible?

Hi everyone,

I have 8 stone to lose!

I'm starting slimming world tomorrow and don't feel very confident that this is possible.

I am 25 and morbidly obese, this is my last attempt at a lifestyle change before weight loss surgery.

I am a student, have 4 children, and really want to ttc, but having trouble due to being so overweight. I don't really want to cook seperate meals every night and I'm a big fan of my slow cooker as I'm so busy during the day. So the food I make will have to be family friendly.

Is this possible?

Yes it's certainly possible - I have recently reached "target" following an 8 stone loss over exactly 21 months. I thought I'd give it a try to see what happened and never envisioned the relative ease with which I achieved such a monumental loss. Good luck - perseverance is what you need x

Yes! Of course it is :) good luck!

It's certainly possible, and you can do it! Drink plenty, plenty of speed foods and you'll be fine. Don't beat yourself up if you put on a 1lb here and there, and there's always someone here for support, we are all walking the same path.
And set your goals small, they seem easier to achieve. Good luck.

It is possible to lose any amount of weight by not eating as many calories and doing more exercise. If it doesn't work, somewhere along the way you are kidding yourself.

It might not be easy to maintain that discipline.

I am starting next Tuesday evening and want to lose 9 stone by Christmas 2017 so got 18 months

sarahs88 · 15/06/2016 16:53

Of course!! Depends on your willpower of course, and the fact that this is a permanent life-change in food eating (more than likely), but of course you can do it!!

Definitely possible I had 10st to lose when I joined on January 5th this year I am hoping to get my 5st award tomorrow. No idea why I am losing so fast I stick to plan and so virtuality no exercise. I was going with the plan to be at this stage by Christmas!

Purplerain, you can absolutely change your whole life, health and future with Slimming World, and the support of your consultant and group- what an exciting challenge.
I'm sure you will be inspired by the experiences of people who've lost large amounts of weight who feature on the SW website and in the magazine.

Just found this thread, but I need to lose a total amount of about the same as the OP.
First SW meeting was 31/05, 36 hours after we returned from 2 weeks in Lanzarote, where PILs live. It's not like that was a blow-out holiday. We stayed with PILs and MIL did almost all of the cooking, and she is very good with what she makes and also portion sizes - which is where we have always struggled at home.

But we both noticed how very uncomfortable the flight out was - 4 hrs of hip squeezing, not enough room with the person next to us, deliberately sitting apart to try and get a neighbour that was thinner than either of us.

And while we were there, DH ended up going to the local medical centre because he was struggling to breathe. Turns out he had overused his Ventolin inhaler, which he should only use for allergy related issues and that had pushed up his heart rate.

Enough was enough - we are both 40 - and I was 17 st 12 1/2 lbs on first weigh, last Tuesday I was 16st 13 1/2lbs. One lb away from my first stone. And DH has lost 1st 8lbs, so is under 24st for the first time in aaaaaaaages. He's very happy.

Big weight loss is doable but logging your food diaries for the first few weeks is important, and make sure you count your syns properly. We have found that if we have a week where the loss is poor, we take it easy on the starchy carbohydrates, and replace them stuff like spiralized courgette or butternut squash.

pippinandtog · 10/07/2016 17:35

Meow, I agree that easing back on the carbs can really boost weight loss.
I don't often have a full SP day, but regularly have SP lunches.
