I'm wondering what brand of porridge is the best to have as Healthy B for breakfast please? The HE list says 'unflavoured' but I see a lot of them have something or other added to them. I don't want to waste syns at breakfast but I do like porridge. Thanks.

If you get just a regular box/bag of porridge oats, they are all healthy extras. Not the little microwave sachets, just standard oats.

If you want the microwave ones, you can have any of the Multigrain Oatso Simple ones, but it has to be multigrain. You can also have one type of the Special K, I think it's raspberry & cranberry but you could double check by looking on the website or asking your consultant.

Thank you. I shall try those :)

I like the Quaker Oats, finer than some, I think they're the best. I get a big box and add raisins and cinnamon.

Thanks VW. Are they microwave ones too?

Yes, they do the microwave sachets, I just fined the packets a bit small, so have to have two packets, I'm also trying to budget a bit so it works out more expensive like that, I've also got rid of my microwave so do them on the hob. I've just looked up the ingredients of the sachets and they have an added stabiliser, I'm trying to avoid any unnecessary additives to, anyhoo, I'll stop going on now.

I watched one if those pseudo science programmes about food last year and they "showed" that finer ground oats are digested faster than coarsly ground oats and so fill you up for a shorter time.
So if you don't mind then them option for less finely ground/more jumbo oats might stave off the hunger pangs a bit longer?

VulcanWoman · 09/01/2016 11:43

Oh, so Ready Brek would be best to avoid maybe.

Just microwave porridge oats, they don't need to be the sachets to work in the microwave, normal oats and whatever liquid you're using works fine.

Thanks everyone. I'll try the porridge oats in the microwave. Personally I find porridge keeps me full for longer than other cereals. Some of them only last about an hour and then I'm hungry again. I actually find it easier to go without breakfast at all but I'm trying to give it a go for a change.
