thinking about starting SW

I have steadily been putting on weight over the past years.

I have a demanding but sedentary job and for the past 15 years have been bringing up my kids alone. They are now almost grown and gone and I need to look to my future before I don't have one ;o)

I have no idea what I weigh as I don't own scales but my clothes are getting tight and I'm now more a 10/12 than my usual 8/10 so is suspect I need to lose a stone or two (I'm 5'4" so not particularly slim for my height).

There is a local SW and in a couple of weeks I will be in the position to start (can't start before as I'll be out of the country). But, I am really nervous and am not sure what to expect.

I am diary intolerant and seem to have an issue with wheat. I eat fish but mostly Quorn, rarely drink alcohol and do have a lot of water and herbal tea. I also have cider apple water once a day. I snack occasionally but I think i'm getting getting middle aged spread so maybe need smaller portions and to exercise more, but boy do I lack the will power...will SW help? I hope so, I feel so dreadful at the moment with a real Buddha Belly ;o(

I'm in a similar position to you planning to join this Tuesday. I like the idea of being able to eat good portions and loosing weight and also being able to have the odd treat. I have got a relatively small amount of weight to lose, about ten pounds, maybe a bit more, and I am a similar height (5ft5), small build do cannot carry much extra weight. Have also just turned 40 and I am worried about it getting harder to keep off weight as I get older.

I've been doing SW since the beginning of this month. First week is a learning curve but I found that by meal planning and organising myself it becomes routine. The Food Optimising book is brilliant and tells you everything you need to know. The SW magazine has great recipes in it but you can find plenty for free online.
If you like big portions just remember to fill your plate up with 1/3 super free and that'll fill you up nicely! If you think you lack willpower don't worry because you can include syns everyday or save them for the weekend!

I have now joined, 2 days in and being able to have chocolate as syns has really helped. I need to work on the routine aspect as very busy all the time and eat on the go a lot. Need to maybe start making lunches in advance.

I make overnight oats before bed so saves me time in the morning and if I'm really running late I just take it to work with me. I get in two hours before anyone else so can happily munch at my desk! Having small tubs that you can throw some fruit or crudités into is really useful too. And in regards to lunch I just make extra dinner and save some for lunch the next day. Saves lots of time so I don't have to make separate dinner or lunch.
