Slimming World
Mid way diet slump
Phsteven · 13/05/2015 10:43
Ive been doing slimming world since the end of January and hà ve lost just over a stone. It's been slow and steady, which is fine. I've probably lost just over a pound a week on average. I've got a little under another stone to go and feel like I'm really losing momentum. Now had a few half pound off/ stay the same/ put a bit on weeks.
I realise that some people have it much harder than this - ie have a much longer haul of months or even years to keep going - but I would appreciate some advice. It must be a common thing for people to lose the plot a bit when the novelty has well and truly worn off, but the end is not yet quite in sight.
So anyone got themselves going again? Any tips? Words of wisdom? Or do I just need to have a word with myself and buckle down!?
tabulahrasa · 13/05/2015 11:32
Yes buckle down woman!!! Lol
Try starting as if it's new again, look everything up to make sure they're the same still and you haven't misremembered syn values, make sure you're weighing and measuring the healthy extras properly and keep a diary to make sure you're having a third speed foods - that works for a lot of people.
If you don't think that's the issue, try mixing things up a bit, add in extra SP days, try new foods and recipes, if your B choice is usually bread try something else instead, some people find they've got into a rut of almost following it but not quite if that makes sense.
The other thing to consider is that some people find as they get closer to target they need to decrease syns or increase activity.

Are you eating enough veg and fruit? Our target members swear by always eating 1/3 plate of veg and eating and enjoying your syns. I think planning and prep are the secret with slimming world. Also be careful with bread - some target members said that they have given up bread because it seems to make them gain. Some still avoid it even now they are maintaining.
Agree a couple of SP days might kickstart you again. SW is about changing your eating habits for life so you need to find a way to make it sustainable for the longterm. It's a kinder way of eating IYSWIM - you are eating to take care of yourself. That means lots of nourishing food - salad and veg are the secret.

Thanks both - this is really great advice. Kind of what I know to be true, but needed spelling out. I like the idea of starting again assuming no knowledge and planning from a 'clean sheet'. So, my commitments are
- More vegetables and salad (good on fruit but have slipped with veg)
2. Write it down, check syn values etc. properly
3. Move more
And the most important bit - buckle down. No more "little bites" of other peoples food. No more vaguely thinking I'm more or less within syn limits.
One more thing, I'm consuming stupid amounts of yogurt ... Partly as a breakfast so that a and b can be used for other things and partly as an easy free snack. Is mainlining muller light bad for weight loss?
ThisTimeIAmMagic · 13/05/2015 21:34
I'm not an authority but tbh I wouldn't want to be eating more than 2 yoghurt a day. I don't eat the Muller Lights because I'm not keen on the sweeteners in them. Having said that I know 2 target members who ate loads at various points!
tabulahrasa · 13/05/2015 21:52
Muller light should be fine - if you're having speed with it too.
I know I don't if I have a muller light, but I don't have them often, I'm not really a yoghurt fan anyway, I only have them if I'm having an...I may well eat the entire contents of my house kind of day and I'm trying to minimise the damage by at least trying to limit it to SW friendly stuff.
I'm not an expert either, I've just been doing it a loooong time, because I've had a lot to lose, not because it doesn't work, lol.
tabulahrasa · 13/05/2015 21:53
Speed foods, not, you know, speed...though I believe that might work too for entirely different reasons, rofl
Phsteven · 18/05/2015 21:41
Thanks tabulah. I have been doing lots of what's been suggested here, so we'll see what tomorrow brings. There was a bit of a prosecco/ gin/ port incident on Saturday though, so may have blown it. There's no 'silver bullet' is there? Just stick properly to the plan and keep slogging away. Or start with the speed (although I talk too much as it is, so that could be a whole other disaster).
