Eating out advice - Chinese food

Am going for a meal out with friends tomorrow - was half tempted to cancel it because I don't want to go off track! We're post like going out to a Chinese restaurant. Any advice what to eat and what to totally avoid? Thank you.

Boiled rice is free , anything that comes in batter or is deep fried (spring rolls and what have you) is really high... though they're obvious, lol.

Chow mein is fairly low syn as are things like chicken in black bean sauce, chop suey or vegetables in a non sugary sauce... Though not curry sauce either, that's got a fair amount of syns in it.

Oh and soups are ok for starters.

I don't eat meat though, so other people will have better ideas.

There's basics in the back of your book. Pick plain rice, steamed stir fried, something not too saucy or fried in batter.

Thank you - rice or chicken chow mein sound good. And no soft drinks am going to stick to water! Will take a look in the book too.

I was browsing the Chinese takeaway syns today and noticed chicken and mushroom was very low..about 9. I was pleasantly surprised! I couldn't believe my favourite which I used to have every weekend was around 24 syns! Shock
Diet soft drinks are ok too! Enjoy yourself !

Now they've decided to go to an Italian restaurant instead! Had a look at the menu online and am thinking soup for starter and seafood risotto for main - but no dessert. Good tip about the diet soft drinks, don't want it is but restaurant food always tastes better with a fizzy cold drink. Thank you.

If you avoid creamy sauces, oily dressings and dishes with loads of cheese, italian is good...I'd watch for the sauce in risotto though, I've been caught out when it comes out and it's actually a creamy sauce and didn't say it - tasted good right enough, lol.

Risottos can have lots of parmasen in them and oil to fry the ingredients.
Tomato based sauces are best.

In the end I just had a glass of water & seafood risotto in tomato sauce. No syns yesterday so hopefully the risotto covers me!
