Hi

I have a GP referral now for SW, I have 4 stone and a bit to lose. I have never been to SW but the meeting is tomorrow evening at 7.

However (and this is where I need some help) I have to do the weeks food shop today at 2 as I have the car.

What foods would be good to get? Obviously once I have the books I can meal plan but I only shop once a week. I eat a dairy/soya free diet and I am breastfeeding.

Fry light? Fruit? Eggs? Fish?

Many thanks

The SW website has a 7-day meal plan which might give you some idea of the sort of stuff you'll be able to eat - here

Basically, stock up on ingredients that you can cook a meal from scratch from - fruit and veg, tins of beans, fish, lean meats (preferably no visible fat or easy to trim off; if mince, 5% fat or less), eggs. You can eat freely of all these things. Yes to frylight! You'll get extra 'healthy extras' as you're breastfeeding - one is a calcium choice and the other is fibre. So think wholemeal bread/alpen light bars/bran-based cereals. Not sure about your calcium choice as you're not eating dairy, but I'm sure your consultant will advise tomorrow.

Good luck - it's a great plan!

Try the website as recommended by DreamRabbit. I've been doing SW since 2013 so if you need any help just let me know :)

I have my book to hand so can send you a list if you like.

Lean meat like chicken or turkey is a good start. Pasta, rice and potatoes are all on plan so they are good too. Fruit and veggies are your best friend so load up on those.

P.S. Fry Light - yes definitely. Eggs and Fish are both on plan (if you do fry use fry light not oil).

When you sign up, tell the consultant about your dietary requirements and the fact you are Breastfeeding. With regards to BFing, they should be able to give you an additional booklet with all sorts of info about how the plans works while BFing. (I am BFing too)

There's almond milk on calcium (a choice) list. Some at my group use it to make rice pudding as you get a bucket full for hex a.Smile

Thank you everyone

In the end due to a mistimed but very desperately needed toddler nap I didn't shop until later.

I have fry light, plenty of beans, chickpeas, lentils, eggs, fish, lean meat and a big butternut squash to make my favourite HFW meal.

I used to be a skinny vegetarian who did a lot of yoga and meditation. Not so much now. But I do know how to cook so that's a bonus just need an incentive to cut out the crap.

We use oat milk which makes.amazing rice pudding, porridge, scotch pancakes and cakes and muffins. Only thing I can't stand it in is tea.
