Slimming World

Am I doing something wrong on slimming world? Not doing very well!

What am I doing wrong?!!!
So I've been on virtually every diet you can think of and the only one I ever had success on is the good old stress diet following a break up years ago, combined with the Atkins diet and replacing evening meals with a bottle of wine! Not healthy!

Anyway as you can imagine the weight piled back on, I've also had a baby since then and am currently 2 and a half to 3 stone over weight. I've tried a number of diets over the last 3 years since DD was born. Have gone through all of them, WW, 5:2, atkins, and currently back to slimming world.

I started back on slimming world (on my own as I already have the books and can't afford classes/haven't got time for classes at the mo) exactly 3 weeks ago. Did great the first week and lost 3lbs but rewarded myself with 'goodies' that weekend. Epic fail! Following saturday weigh in I had gained 2lbs back.
Was good again the next week...lost 2lbs. Had a few Valentine's Day treats the evening after weigh in. Nothing major though. Been extra good all week this week....Weighed in today expecting to see maybe 0.5 loss. No.....

I GAINED 1lb!!!!

So very annoyed!!!

I haven't been exercising as I was in a bad car crash at the start of the diet and am injured so can't fully exercise at the mo. I might attempt a run today however...we'll see.

I have been predominantly following the original plan with the odd extra easy day here and there.

A typical day would be (original plan)

Breakfast
Overnight porridge oats...35g (HeXa)
70g dried apricots (HeXb)
Topped with Asda frozen summer fruits and frozen blueberries (both thawed overnight)
Vanilla mullerlight

Mid morning - banana

Lunch
Syn free veg soup (homemade - literally chicken stock, veg, seasoning)
Few slices of Ham
Apple
Satsumas

Dinner
Salmon, broccoli, carrots, butternut squash, small jacket potato (HeXb)
Mullerlight yoghurt

Evening snack curly wurly, alpen light, options hot choc.

Throughout the day I generally drink tea...quite a lot. Not a massive amount of water but a few glasses.

I feel like I've missed something off but I don't think I have! I haven't really felt hungry and so I have been sticking to it.

26point2, 'free' foods are those on the SW plan which you can eat 'freely'. Of course, if you overate on even free foods, you wouldn't lose weight, there is an element of portion control in that a third of your plate should be 'speed' foods, which are veg and some fruit and for most people there is only so much you can eat. There's obviously an element of psychology in it too. Personally, I eat huge portions, but I do include large amounts of fruit and veg in my diet. I feel like I am eating loads, but I've worked out calories a few times and it varies from 1200-2200 a day, but is mostly below about 1600. It certainly doesn't feel like it!

dickie/midori - I totally agree that there are different plans for different people, and am very glad that you (and others) are losing weight on SW. That's the most important thing, isn't it?

But my post was to the OP for whom her current diet isn't working - and I was making the observation that it's hugely carbtastic. Just something for her to consider. Not an attempt to snatch her away to Bootcamp! Grin

But the op's current diet IS working! she has lost 4ibs in 3 weeks, she's not massively overweight so were not looking for 7ib a week like those fucking stupid Sky programmes advocate I imagine she will lose a couple of pounds this week which will take her to nearly half a stone ..... she will be thin by summer Wink

Stick with it op and don't be disheartened, if you are finding it doable and continue to lose a pound or two per week then happy days Wine

I agree the OPs diet is working. When she has stuck to it/done it correctly. There wee a couple of errors, as people pointed out (too many HEs) and the OP herself admitted she ate off plan knowingly a few times. But a 4lb loss is still good.

Title of the thread:

Forgive me, therefore, for assuming that it's not working for her ... Hmm

Ffs, OP lost 3lb in her first week, binged, gained 2lb, back on plan, lost another 2lb, minor blip and gained a 1lb?? Am I missing something? What is the great tragedy here?

OP I'd understand your frustration if you'd been on plan for months and barely seen results but come on, the two weeks you'd admittledly stuck to plan you lost 3lb and 2lb respectively! Give it a proper chance before throwing in the towel.

And BIWI the plan clearly is working for her when followed correctly. And from what I can tell her 3 week journey has been totally inconsistent so I think it's ridiculous for her (and the critical respondents) to draw these silly conclusions of 'this is shite and not working!'.

Muller Lights used to be free years ago but they're not now. I don't think Slimming World works for everyone. Too high in sugar and carbs is my opinion. And extra easy is an even bigger waste of time for me in any case.

The majority of Müllerlights are free, there are of course exceptions;

Although sw works well for many people some find that too much fruit or carbs can hinder their weight loss. I would reduce the amount of fruit initially to 2 or 3 portions a day and make sure you're drinking plenty of water

One to two pounds a week is normal weightloss
I once lost 52lbs in a year! :)

I was going to say, if you're having weekend blowouts, ww might be easier to stick to as its more old fashioned calorie counting/portion control high protein/low carb

Hi Dollypopsicle! Sorry for replying to an old post but came across it looking into people's thoughts of calorie counting on slimming world. I hope this is still relevant and useful!

I managed to lose 19 lbs over 8 weeks on slimming world. Then I went on an all inclusive holiday and put a fair portion back on.... Back home, back on diet and back losing weight.

As long as you are sticking within your 5-15 syns per day, you shouldn't feel bad for eating chocolate. All diets should be balanced and the fat/sugar you get from the syns balance the healthy food. Otherwise your body thinks it's being starved of something. Which is weird, as cave women wouldn't have eaten a custard cream in between washing their animal skin outfits and sweeping the cave.... Maybe a sign of how humans have evolved?

An idea to help you lose weight may be to check your fruit intake. Dieting needs to be adjusted for each person but I found that when I replaced an unhealthy snack for a piece of fruit, and also ate fruit as part of my breakfast and lunch every day, I didn't lose weight. Turns out that we should only eat 2-3 (possibly 4, if ultra fit) pieces of fruit a day maximum. I researched this at length! The sugar in fruit (fructose) gets processed in the liver and an excess turns into triglycerides (I know not what these are) which get stored as fat in the body. When I reduced fruit to 3 portions a day, I went back to losing 2-3 lbs per week.

As I mentioned, we're all different and need to suss out what works for us individually, but cutting fruit may be worth trying if you're eating 4 or more portions in a day. It's worth mentioning that too much fructose has been linked to type 2 diabetes! 😮 Stick with it..... I'm sure you'll see positive results soon.

Good luck!

A lot of people don't lose well if they're eating bananas every day- they're really high in natural sugars. Also check your ham is not honey cured or something as I had this issue and discovered is been shovelling in meats that aren't syn free! Other than that, variety is the key so change your breakfast - try to have a different one every day if you can. Good luck xx

Different things work for different people, personally slimming world has helped me loads of weight through sticking to plan eating low fat but high carb diet, lots of wholemeal pasta, rice, barley, starchy veg, quinoa etc along with loads of fruit, veg and pulses. You do need to stick to the plan though and like everything it takes a bit of getting used to. Good luck.

I think carbs and sugar might be the problem. The muller lights are low fat but higher in sugar for example.
