Pregnant and starting Slimming World in the new year, want to be my buddy?

Just that!

I am pregnant with DC3, and truthfully DC2 has only really just popped out. I absolutely cannot put anymore weight with this pregnancy. Not just for the usual vanity reasons but because I need to stay fit and mobile to look after my toddler and baby.

Anyone else in a similar boat and want to join me?

It's important not to think of it as "eat as much as you can", more like "eat enough". And the more fruit and veg the better, as 5children says, you have less space for junk that way.

Caillou · 31/12/2014 19:29

I will jump on the thread with you :)

I am currently 15 weeks with dc2 started slimming world 7 weeks ago and already lost 6.5pounds (morning sickness helped a lot)

I am hoping the sickness will go soon so I can start to cook again proper meals

5ChildrenAndIt · 31/12/2014 19:33

The thing is - knock yourself out with 'eat as much as you can'. You'll binge a day, maybe two.... But without the addictive properties of sugar you'll get bored with overeating and naturally normalise your portions. But 'eat all you like' is a great safety valve for snackers and emotional eaters. Keep your hands full of apple slices or hard boiled eggs or whatever - and eventually you'll be physically too full to succumb to the cookie:

Welcome Caillou!

Am impressed you have already started. If you don't mind me asking how do the monitor your weightless when you are growing a baby? And, have SW required any paperwork from your midwife so that you can officially follow the programme?

Caillou · 31/12/2014 19:44

I think as I said the weightloss has so far been helped with the sickness, only cravings are salad and fish.
Also, I am overweight (around 3 stones)

When you sign up, your consultant gives you a form that you need to take to your midwife,

The midwife needs to sign it and then advise you on how much weight is reasonable for you to loose. And update it throughout your pregnancy

Just a warning though, be prepared for people to tell you, you shouldn't be loosing weight while pregnant Confused (I just smile and ignore, I know that I am doing it responsibly)

mameulah · 31/12/2014 19:44

5children, that's really helpful, up until I read your post I couldn't help but think of it as being greedy.

The SW app has a free menu plan, looks quite good.

I have been to a meeting this morning, pleased to report that I stayed the same :)

They now have 2 plans, extra easy and extra easy sp (which is not recommended to pregnant women), so not much change this year, will carry on the extra easy way.

If anyone has any syn free recipe, please share :)

mameulah · 02/01/2015 18:36

I haven't signed up yet because I still have to cancel my ww membership- can anyone please remind me...

I think when I dabbled with it in the past I was EE and had 15 sins a day, free milk and two slices of bread .

Does that sound right ?

pp Well done for staying the same weight !

Do they still do green and red days or is it just extra easy now? If it's green and red do you mind telling me how many healthy extras you get when pregnant, Callous. And well done for staying the same, especially over Christmas, that's fab Smile

HippoPottyMouth · 02/01/2015 18:53

Caillou!! Not Callous!! Sorry! It was my phone! Shock

IceLemonGin · 02/01/2015 19:12

Can I join too? I'm 9 weeks and was doing SW before I found out I was pregnant. A mixture of nausea, tiredness and Christmas has meant that I've picked up some terrible habits. I have a lot to lose (about 6 stone) so really need to get back on track.

I'm going to be doing the plan at home as can't afford to go to class right now. I've spoken to MW and she was fine with this as I have a high BMI. Are you all having the full 15 syns a day? Before I got my BFP I stuck to between 5-10 with perhaps 2 days a week at the full 15 syns. Just wondering if I should have the full amount?

mameulah · 02/01/2015 23:52

Hi Ice

I reckon 15 sins a day. Better to be real and in it for the long term.

Especially with hormones and fatigue to contend with. What about two short walks a day to balance out the sins? I always feel better faster when exercising a little in the morning and afternoon or evening,

Also, there was an advert just on the tele saying that the Daily Record (I think) is giving out a free SW magazine tomorrow.

Good point mameulah. It gives me something to lower if I'm having trouble once the baby is here/I've finished breastfeeding.

I have a dog so walk him twice a day...although admittedly the distance lately has been much shorter so I will pick that up again.

Thanks for the tip about the paper. Will get DH to pick one up.

Caillou · 03/01/2015 20:33

Sorry for the delay in replying,

It is only extra easy now, they have stopped red and green.

When pregnant you are allowed 2 healthy extra A and 2 healthy extra B on extra easy (same when you are breastfeeding)

I am allowing myself to have all 15 syns but I don't always use them all

IceLemonGin · 04/01/2015 11:46

That's good to know about the 2 x healthy extras Caillou is that from the first trimester as I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that it is from the second. Happy to be corrected though!

What are your favourite SW meals?

Bellejessleo · 04/01/2015 11:58

Can I join in please! I'm 15 +5 and before I was pregnant did low carb but then the nausea kicked in and all I could stomach was carbs! Think I've gained around a stone and feeling terribly unhealthy, think slimming world would be quite a balanced plan to follow. Plus I love their recipes. Don't think I could face going to an actual class as I'm worried I may get funny looks with a bump trying to lose weight. I don't necessarily want to lose weight but I'd like to not gain weight in ridiculous amounts over the next 5 months! If I can help it!

Bellejessleo · 04/01/2015 12:00

icelemongin sw do an excellent chilli recipe, and their bolognese is lovely too. I think their recipes are very good..easy to follow and the ingredients are easy to source. Good for family meals as well.

Caillou · 04/01/2015 12:30

Ice, I have doubled checked in the leaflet I was given, and it says

"We recommend you select 2a and 2b healthy extras choices to help supply a good balance of important nutrients such as calcium and fiber during your pregnancy"

There is no indication as to when to start having the extra a and b, so I take it as it is valid all through pregnancy.

Trying a spinach and potato curry today :)

IceLemonGin · 05/01/2015 10:29

Hello Belle I'm not going to class either. Thanks for the chilli/bolognaise recommendations, they're usually the 2 meals I have on my meal plan each week.

Thanks for that Callilou will have the advised 2 a and bs. I would love to know how your curry turns out.

Can anyone recommend any snacks that are free/low syn that I can have to keep nausea at bay. I thought my morning sickness was easing but it's back today worse than ever.

impatienceisavirtue · 05/01/2015 19:35

Hello! I'm 16 weeks with dc4 and just realised how many pounds I've piled on - definitely above and beyond baby weight. I'll be starting sw this week. I've never done anything like this or dieted in general, but metabolism doesn't seem to be what it used to be Confused

IceLemonGin · 09/01/2015 16:24

How's everyone getting on?

I've stuck to the plan 100% this week. Weekends are my downfall but I'm going to plan my meals and snacks and save a few syns for treats. I weigh on Monday so fingers crossed I will see a loss

Caillou · 09/01/2015 17:45

I did put on half a pound this week not a lot but I would have preferred to stay the same or a loss

Will try to be even more good next week.

We cooked the honey and mustard salmon (the recipe is on sw website) today and that was delicious and so quick to make :) even dh was impressed (it takes a lot for him to be impressed with sw food)

AliceMum09 · 10/01/2015 10:56

Just wanted to add that Slimming World is fine during pregnancy. When I was pregnant with DD2 3 years ago I was weighed and measured at my 12 week scan hospital appointment and my BMI was calculated as 30.1. Because it was over 30 I was offered the opportunity to come to SW meetings at the hospital weekly during my pregnancy and for 6 weeks after the birth. I couldn't do it because the meetings clashed with after-school activities that my two older children were doing unfortunately, but I did join a SW group 3 weeks after DD2 was born and lost 2 stone 8lbs in about 7 months.
