My DD has only woken my DS once (she is 9 months old)

Most children can screen out crying - as mums we are very tuned into our baby's cries

I was worried about that too with my ds2 but never was a problem - toddler never woke! lol!

That's reassuring!!! I suppose he'd have to get use to it! Other people have said buy whitenoise machines?!

Hi my Ds aged 4 woke up a couple of times in the first week when we bought DS2 home, but then slept through it after that, so I think they do get used to it - I didnt really try & keep ds2 quiet or take him downstairs or anything - you just have to get on with it, and let them make a noise & then the others get used to it & it doensnt bother them after a while

Thank you!!! I keep thinking that in years gone by families had 6, 7 etc children and they got on with it!!

I'm 5 weeks into this scenario.
DS is 17 months and also a light sleeper.

He hated the sound of DD crying for the first few days - would make him cry and I'm afraid to say it did wake him up a few times in the night or during daytime nap times.

However, he very quickly learned to ignore her crying (she cries a lot!!!) and so now just ignores it or sleeps through.

I found it important just to keep to his routine as much as possible and even if he woke, try and put him down again later, or if not just try the same routine the next day.

Best of luck!

DD1 woke a couple of times when DD1 first came back from hospital but now easily sleeps through any night time screaming!
There was a bit of simulataneous day time tears but that too has passed. There was also sympathy crying where one starts and the other joins in just to tip you right over the edge. DD1 is 2 years older than DD2.
