Settling LO why is bedtime suddenly so bad?

I hope someone might have a solution or some suggestions for me...

My DD is 5months old. Since she was 12 weeks, she has settled at 8pm, had a dream feed at at 11pm and slept until 7ish.

In the last week she has been refusing to settle at 8. She is good with naps during the day and settles straight after her dream feed but she is getting sooo upset and cross at bedtime.

Our routine is: 7ish bath, dress for bed, BF and then up to bedroom for 8ish. She has been screaming! I am not worried for me but she seems so unhappy and is clearly tired (there is lots of eye rubbing etc).

Any ideas? Or is this just a growth phase?

growth spurt, teething or could be coming down with something.

Too hot in this heat???

Brasso4 · 28/06/2010 21:16

It could be the heat but she naps fine during the day. I suspect it might be a developmental spurt.

Could be a developmental spurt. I would try putting her to bed earlier so she's not overtired (sounds daft, but often works).

Could it be overtiredness? My six month old gets REALLY cross at bedtime if she goes down
too late and finds it very difficult to settle (she has 2.5 or 3 hours daytime sleep and then her bedtime is 6.15pm and then up at 10.00pm and 3.00am for feeds and then wakes at 7.00am)Perhaps your lo needs an earlier bedtime, 7.00pm perhaps, sounds weird I know but it might work! I'm no expert, lol, but just a thought!

lolalotta · 28/06/2010 21:53

The reason I think it is overtiredness is that my lo had rubbish daytime sleep yesterday, half what she normally has and by bedtime it was all rubbing eyes, squirming around etc and then she had the biggest screaming marathon ever just because she was knackered and she wasn't even late for bed!!! I really think if you could try and gradually bring her bedtime a bit forward it might help, especially as she might be getting more tired now she is getting older and developmentally doing more stuff. Just a thought, feel free to ignore me, lol! Good Luck!

I agree with lolalotta, sounds like overtiredness. has she recently dropped a nap?
