When should my 3 year old go to bed?

I usually put her to bed at 7. She has no problems falling asleep wakes up few times a night but goes back to sleep after a kiss and a little cuddle.

Everything was fine for a while but now she wakes up really early, at around 5.30. Am i putting her to bed too early should we start going to bed at 8ish?

She rarely has naps during the day cos after an hour in the day she won't fall asleep till about 9.30 witch i think is very late, and still wakes up early.

What time does you toddler go to bed and when do they wake up.

Just want to get an idea what am i doing wrong

Thanks

My three year old goes to bed between 8 and 8:30, if I am lucky. She does seem to be getting better at going to bed and staying there.

She gets up at about 7:30am.

about 9 sleeps till 7:30 no naps

not doing anything wrong. sorry tiping with dd2 standing on me. I put DD1 at 8 (switch off) she then can talk as long as she wants to herself in the dark. no naps at 3, she wouldn't. wakes up at 6/6.30 it still can go 1h each way. 7h30 is bedtime and story time, still the same now at 5. way better than at 2 when she woke up at 4 h everyday.
you can't change thier sleep pattern but you can teach her to stay in bed till a certain time.

So 7 is bit early isn't it? But at 7 she knackered fall asleep before the story finishes... I think i'll try to put her to bed at around 8 c if she'll wake up latter...

How long do you think it would take her to start waking up latter? A week? two? Cos i think her body clock is use to waking up early now....

if she is tired at 7 you will have trouble to keep her up, not good for you and her. I tried to adjust DD1 from falling asleep at 6 till 4 am, didn't work. we were both upset by 8 pm and overtired, and she still woke up at 4 am. I gave up after a month. she changed her pattern later on herself
good luck

To be honest in my experience if you have an early riser there's not ahuge amount you can do about it. Worth a try going to bed later but it may not work. Is the room dark enough? Is she waking up for the loo? You could try waking her at 3am and then put her to sleep again and she may sleep through. Only do it though if you know she'll settle quickly. Good luck!

Mrsbubblebum · 23/06/2010 08:37

The room isn't dark but it's not dark when she goes to bed either... Maybe darker curtains would help thou... She doesn't wake up to go to loo. Just wakes up every now and then and as soon as she realises that we're near buy goes back to sleep.

Waking her up at 3am that could be a challenge but could try that.

Ds is exactoy the same. He goes to bed at 7 and is up at 530 - I think its the way he is coupled with the time of year. We have blackout blinds, they make zero difference!

My dd goes to bed about 8 and used to get up at 5.30.We use a bunny clock annd reward chart and now she wakes up betwwen 6-6.30 but will stay in her room till the clock wakes up at 7.
