Bedtime problems with 2 year old after changing rooms at nursery

I?m a bit stuck on what to do with this one ? my little boy has just moved up rooms in nursery to the 2 -3 room, he has a key carer and spent a few weeks of going up for settling in sessions, once I leave him he is fine. Yesterday was his first full day there and although very upset when I left him he had a good day and was fine within 5 mins. However, it all manifested itself again at bedtime when he was fine until I left the room then he just stood up and screamed until I thought he was going to be sick, I think I lasted 5 mins before I went in and sat with him until he was asleep. He is normally so good at going to bed, fine when I leave the room, the odd moan but settles himself off fine and sleeps well. Now this may pass quite quickly but I am pretty sure we will have a repeat tonight and I just wanted a bit of advice on what to do. I generally fall into the controlled crying camp but in this situation when I know he?s crying because he needs some reassurance I don?t feel happy to do this but at the same time I don?t want him becoming dependent on me to go to sleep. Has anyone experienced anything similar and have any pearls of wisdom?!?!

PS He did this earlier this year when we moved and we did just leave him but he was just crying on and off not stood up screaming mummy!

Got a similar situation myself with 16 month old who is normally fine about sleeping alone but ill at the moment and won't let me out of his sight.... nor will he go to sleep.

I was going to post my own question - but I am sure once reassured and settled you can withdraw gradually. I plan to if need be. Hopefully once it is no longer new he won't need reassurance at bedtime any longer.

Why not stay with him for now and in a while you can do gradual withdrawal?

I think they take changes harder than they usually show and love constinuety and consistency because it makes them feel safe.
