PU/PD with gradual withdrawal...is it right?

I'm a bit confused

I've started doing PU/PD with DS who is 25 weeks old but i'm worrying i'm not doing it right. DS has a bottle before bed and tends to feed to sleep or until he is sleepy. I then wind him for 10 minutes and then put him in his cot. If he wakes up i've been putting my hand on his chest/tummy and talking to him to reassure him and if he keeps crying i do PU/PD.

Is it right with him feeding to sleep and when I reassure him with my hand on his chest/tummy should i take it off when he settles like you do when you put them down after picking them up or do i now do gradual withdrawal so he doesnt get used to falling asleep with my hand there iyswim?

As far as I can remember they shouldn't feed to sleep with pupd as the point is that they self settle.

Is he very windy? 10 minutes seems like a long time to wind him for and I wonder if it overstimulates him. But if it needs to be done it needs to be done (I never really winded my DD).

So should i put him down wide awake or sleepy?

He's not really windy so i could cut down the winding time.

I think it's ok if he's sleepy, as long as he's not fast asleep.

It's a while since I did it but I don't think it's a problem if he's sleepy.

Would def cut down winding time if you are able to.

Thank you I'll give it a go and fingers crossed it's a success.
