After loosely following the Jay Gordon sleep plan for just over a week - DS now happily settles himself after coming into my bed at his first waking (usually anytime between 12-3am) without needing to BF

very pleased with this result as i couldn't even imagine it before - and with relatively little upset i might add. Anyhow - the only problem i am seeming to encounter now is that he wakes at around 4.30am -ish and i am not sure what to do here. My 'cut off point' when i was allowing him to BF again was 5.30am... but the other morning he woke up at 4.20am, and cried for an hour- i gave in and fed him at about 5.30 but not sure if this is the right thing to do... thing is i am sure he was hungry at this point as he had quite a good feed... it wasn't just sucking back to sleep iyswim.
i am trying to gradually wean off BF and wanted to drop the morning feed next so just wondering if i should stick it out and maybe just offer him milk in his cup or a snack - (even though its ridiculously early and i would much rather just go straight back to leep at this point!) seems pointless to make him wait for an hour to have a feed (BF or not) just because thats what 'the plan' says, if he's hungry...
i hope this makes sense i do tend to ramble on...
basically - is this the right way to drtop that morning feed or has anyone got any other suggestions?
FWIW, ythe next stage in my plan will be to drop the bed time feed (he BFs to sleep so that will be the hard one...) and then get him staying in his cot for the whole night... i'm not on a timescale but just doing it when it feels right...

Hi Babber, I did Jay Gordon and encountered the same problem, not sure what the 'right' answer is but after some early mornings like you describe I decided to make my cut off point daylight as that is easier to explain and also I don't have to do anything to be able to tell (am too short sighted to see my clock without sitting up!)

i'm hoping as dawn gets later it will shift gradually but if not again will be easy to explain that there's no milk when it's dark outside.

And well done!

Yes I sort of loosely did the same and had the same problem. My cut off tends to be 4am but I want to move it later. Sometimes I say it's still the middle of the night, go back to sleep and this sometimes works but often not. As you say, the light mornings don't help.

I had been toying with getting one of those clocks that changes colour when its time time to get up but not done it yet.

Why not wait till mornings darker and then get right up for breakfast? Seems like 4am wake up a worse habit than morning feeds in bed!
