Sleep deprivation!

Our 10-month-old DS was sleeping beautifully through till about 6am - hardly a lie in but pretty respectable. But now he wakes at 4.30 or 5.30 in the morning. Well, I say he wakes, but often he just cries in his sleep and gets crosser and crosser but still has his eyes shut. When we go into him, we just stroke his head quickly and hand him his muslin and he usually settles again, but not always. We have no idea what's waking him up, as it's light long before he wakes, and there are no weird noises.

When he was diddy, we did get him used to sleeping on his own with a much less hard core version of controlled crying, where you comfort your baby regularly and frequently, rather than at longer and longer intervals. It worked well for him, and he was always pretty good at getting to sleep by himself. But not any more by golly.

Any ideas or tips gratefully received!

sounds like teeth or maybe a bit hungry/ growth spurt! Bless him he obviously wants to sleep but something is waking him, so would think pain or hunger!

There is a "sleep regression" that happens at around 9 months or so (varies according to the baby...) - those who've been through it say it's a particular killer because most babies have usually settled into a fairly decent sleeping pattern by then.

Look here and here for info...

OMG - another sleep regression it has taken us till 9mo to get dd2 to sleep through, following a regression from twice a night to lots of times a night! i can't face another one........

sorry, slummy. when dd1 used to wake at that age, it was hunger. IIRC, we went back to dreamfeeding her at our bedtime for a couple of weeks, then weaned her back off it. not sue fi that would help. sleep deprivation sucks, i'm right there with you, not having had a night through for over a year

good luck!
