What age did your DC give up their daytime sleep?

I know there will be many different answers to this one! My dd1 was about 2.5, ds around 2 and now I have a dd3 who is threatening it at 22 months, I have heard of dc still sleeping in the day while at school! dd managed today without and has gone to sleep like a dream as opposed to at least 8.30 some nights with a daytime nap and LOTS of resistance - they are all so different huh! If it is the end of daytime naps for me, I will be a little sad!!

DD is nearly 23 months now and hasn't had a daytime sleep for around a week, unless its the odd 10 mins in the car.

Her sleep at night has improved amazingly. Before she would only sleep around an hour after lunch but seemed to be up half the night, despite going to bed at half 8 and getting up at half 7.

Now she sleeps right through from 7pm until 8pm with no fuss and goes to sleep easily. She does still seem a bit tired after lunch but we just have quiet time reading books for half hour or so which seems to be enough.

Am quite missing the time to myself during day though!

my first 2 were over 3 and then continued resting for a while in the afternoon until at least 3.5

dd2, however, is 23 months and is OK without a sleep, I can see her stopping this summer but I'll make every effort to keep it up a bit longer!

I know...its like I dont want to admit it may be on its way out :0(

Our dd was 16 months! Just when I found out I was pregnant with ds, I so could have done with the rest myself then! Her sleep greatly improved at night though and was sleeping from 730pm till 900am! I'm hoing ds will continue for a while as dd will be starting nursery in the summer, and i'll be able to have an hour or so to myself

My eldest is nearly 5 and still naps in the day once a week. LOL!

He napped every day until he was about 3.5 and then gradually needed it less.

I think it might be me though. I'm always suggesting he has a nap!

DD1 dropped her nap at 18 month! It was really hard as she went though a month of being really overtired a couple of hours before her bedtime, but still she would just lay awake in her cot in the afternoon for an hour or so without falling asleep.

I think its very healthy to nap in the day. Dropping too early back fires when they go to nursery as so exhausted by 4.30 you cant do anything with them. Think my son was 3 but I still think its too young as I know there are children in his creche who still nap at 4. SOmetimes I get my 4 year to nap when he is exhausted at the weekends, last Sunday he slept for 2 hours and still went to night time bed without any problems.

I think so many behaviour problems stem from lack of sleep. I dont see any problem with a young children napping. The more the better if it makes life bearable!

Depends on the child. Two of mine continued napping until over 2 years, but the other dropped it soon after 12 months!! Bit of a shock but you can't make them nap, so just go with it. You'll know when they're ready because their proper nights sleep will be disturbed if they're napping too much in the day. On the plus side, my dc who dropped the day time nap very early, was a fantastic sleeper at night, going to sleep at about 6.30 pm and having a good 12/13 hours and waking happy.

Mine are 5.6 and 2.6 and both still nap in the afternoon. The oldest usually for an hour or a little more and the youngest for 1-2hours.

Hi greedygoose DD2 is 8wks and DD1 has decided to stop her naps in the past 4 weeks. For some reason if she has a nap she will be up until 10pm at night, we have tried everything, early morning naps, waking her for 3pm at latest but no matter what if she naps she's up till 10pm.

Today we took her to a loch and she ran round it for a good two hours and fell asleep at 12noon for hour and a half. I thought that seeing as she had a busy day she would still go down ok tonight.

No chance, I'm just back downstairs and I've been up there from 7:30pm.

I find though that with DD2 its harder to keep DD1 occupied all day to stop her napping and then about 3pm she is really cranky, senseofhumour does the half hour quiet time work?

Sorry for the hijack!
