hey
how do u keep ur bedroom cool for your baby?
our room is at the front of the house where the sun goes dwn, we hav blinds and curtains up to stop the sun going in our room, we keep the window open and at night open both blinds and curtains, and its still like 25c in our room, i no babies are ment to sleep in 18-20c temp but we can never keep our room cool enough

will this be dangerous for him? hes 18weeks old tomorrow.

we have brought a fan for our room but i dont think thats going to cool it much

Just put him to bed in a nappy if you think it's too hot for him.

You could wrap a freezer block up and put that at the bottom of his cot, or put it in front of the fan.

Also open you loft hatch (if you have one) so that the heat can escape into the loft.

no, it won't be dangerous, think of all those babies who live in tropical climes!!!

your little one will be fine, just remember not to put too many clothes/blankets on him

you could do the opposite of they say to keep them warm and that's move the cot (if there's room) onto an outside wall. It will stay cooler than internal walls.
In the day, keep windows open but curtains closed almost drawn.

When it's that hot just make sure he is only wearing a vest and only put a sheet on him. If you swaddle him at all, use a sheet rather than a blanket.

There's only so much you can cool a room.

thnx everyone,
we only leave him in a vest at night now, well we have for the past month, we dont usually put covers on him if its tht hot n when we did he just kicked them off anyway, i took that as a sign he was to hot
hes near enough next to the window anyway so thats one good thing
our loft door is in his room that he'll be moving into in a couple of months
im glad it wont harm him, the midwifes always drilled it into you that it was a really bad thing having the room over 20*c :\

It's about that temperature in the room DS shares with me (age 20 weeks). It's a loft room so there's nowhere for heat to go. I swaddle him in just his nappy, leave the windows open but blinds closed during the day, and open the windows at night. I do put a blanket on him when I go to bed, though.

When it's really hot, I put home-made reflective panels on the windows during the day to keep the sun off. They are big sheets of card with silver foil sellotaped to one side, which I attach to the windows with blu-tack.

If he's 18 weeks old he was born in January, right?

They probably were just warning you not to crank the central heating up and put him to bed covered with heavy blankets a warm babygro, a vest, and a hat (seriously, people actually do this).

A well ventilated room with open windows and a baby sleeping in a vest with no covers is not going to be a problem.

open the loft hatch anyway michelle. it will still cool your room down if you leave your bedroom door open

Northernlurker · 22/05/2010 19:38

I agree with everybody else. the temperature recommendation is just that. As long as he isn't bundled up he won't get too hot sleeping in an ambient higher temperature.
