It's HOT! What should 12mo be wearing to bed?

I've put my twins down to sleep in a short sleeved body suit and pyjamas (long sleeved T-shirt and loose long leggings) but no covers. Or more accurately that's what I dressed them in for DH to take them for a walk in their prama as they wouldn't go to sleep in their room which is 26C and now I've transferred them to their cots. Will they be OK like that do you think? I thought that if they wake up in the night (when I mean ) I can transfer them to a sleeping bag without PJs if the temp has come down. For some reason I can't remember what I did last summer when they were tiny...

At that age DS wore shortie PJs and was in a 5 tog grobag. If the temp dropped later on I'd just put a blanket over him.

he's not worn a vest since he was about 12mo unless it was a freezing night.

FrazzleRock · 21/05/2010 21:01

My 14 month old is in a short sleeved vest and a sleeping bag (no idea what tog)

1stMrsF · 21/05/2010 21:04

Thanks both

Frazzle that's what I tried to put them down in - I think the PJs will be providing the same type of warmth (apart from for their feet!) - I'll try and get them into that later.

The 1stMrsF! How are you? Come back to our post-natal thread and say hello!

My DS is in PJs and has a quilt over him. He will throw it off like he does every night, regardless of temperature.

1stMrsF · 21/05/2010 21:08

Hi llareggub! I will actually, I miss you all from the days when I had time to chat!

My DS is in a long sleeve vest and a grobag.

Might chuck a blanket over him if the temp has dropped by the time I go to bed.

notcitrus · 21/05/2010 21:34

My ds hates heat so last summer (9-12mo) usually slept with just nappy and his blankie over him - he's got about 3 in his cot so nests cosily.

Tonight I didn't even try to put a grobag on him, just t-shirt, nappy, two blankets to snuggle with and he conked out. I just hope he can't undo a Pampers yet...

Whoamireally · 23/05/2010 21:00

11 month old in shortie sleepsuit. We tried a blanket over her but she kicks it off and feels perfectly warm so not worried!

mrsbuggywinkle · 23/05/2010 21:06

my 14mth old is naked, kicked the covers off...and still has a sweaty head!

mylittlemonkey · 23/05/2010 21:12

My 11 week old is also in a short sleeved vest and sleeping bag. I will keep checking on him before going to bed by putting fingers on his chest to make sure not too hot.

mistressploppy · 23/05/2010 21:43

My 7mo is in a nappy and a Grobag. Last night he was in a short sleeve body suit and no sleeping bag or blanket - was fine but woke up at 5.15am. Chucked him in the grobag, he slept 'til I woke him at 7.30am

1stMrsF · 23/05/2010 21:44

thanks for all of these - made me feel better. DT1 slept until 5am in just jammies. DT2 changed into grobag at 1am when she woke. Both fine. Had to send them out in the pushchair again tonight to get them to sleep though, let's just hope we are not setting ourselves up for a longstanding habit...

Ohh thanks for this - have been really worried. Last night DS (6 months) was in vest and 1 tog sleeping bag. My room gets so hot...

What are you taking little ones outside in?

mistressploppy · 24/05/2010 09:33

Hi Boobs - DS is going out in a vest and a sunhat!

mumoffourgirls · 24/05/2010 09:34

As little as possible, usually just nappy and romper suit and she still sweating buckets

dinkystinky · 24/05/2010 09:35

DS2 is in short sleeve bodysuit and 1 tog grobag - is 26 degrees in his room. If goes higher, he goes down to nappy and 0.5 tog grobag.

mrsmeadwead · 24/05/2010 09:37

When it got really hot we used to use an oscillating fan in DS's room which used to help cool him down. It was on a timer, so switched off after a couple of hours.

SirBoobAlot · 24/05/2010 09:39

I currently have him in shorts and a t-shirt but think I shall remove clothes before going out. Am concerned about getting comments about him not being dressed properly when out and about (a la the delightful woman yesterday - why do I always attract comments?!) but he is such a naturally warm baby on top of the temperature...

Would a vest and thin shorts be okay? Obviously lathered in suncream and a hat

mistressploppy · 24/05/2010 09:41

Sounds fine to me. Where do people get off commenting on how a baby is dressed??!! Honestly

SirBoobAlot · 24/05/2010 09:45

I'm an easy target and people are shit. DS was quite happy yesterday so hoped I got it right...

mumoffourgirls · 24/05/2010 09:46

Sounds fine to me, as for comments from other people take no notice

SirBoobAlot · 24/05/2010 09:52

Thanks. Where can you get cheap 0.5 sleeping bags, by the way?

BarefootShirl · 24/05/2010 10:35

In my experiene you just have to go with your instinct - if the baby feels warm enough and seems content then all will be fine whatever he/she is or isn't wearing. When DD was very young she was always very warm and used to sleep naked all summer but DS seemed to feel the cold much more. Now that they are older the same still applies - it seems that DD takes after me and DS after DH.

lynniep · 24/05/2010 17:02

It gets up to 29 in this weather in DS2s room and I put him in a nappy and a 0.5 tog sleeping bag, then turn the fan on this bottom half (I dont want his exposed bits to get chilled)

1stMrsF · 25/05/2010 21:38

Gosh this has turned into a chatty thread! I got a 0.5tog bag today (sheet bag from JoJo, feels very cool) and lo and behold the temp has dropped and they are more than happy in short sleeved vest and 1.0tog bag. Still, at least I am prepared for the next heatwave

Re: comments from other people, my two will not wear socks and I'm always getting comments on their feet/how they've 'lost' their socks. I figure if they are happy...
