Blackout blinds and open windows

How do I persuade 4.5 m.o. DS that it's nighttime when I need to have the windows open, which makes the blackout blinds fairly ineffective?

We do have a bedtime routine, and he goes off to sleep without problems. However, he often wakes 45-60 mins afterwards, which is fine as I can usually settle him back again with a feed if necessary, but at the moment, he's bound to think he's waking from a nap since the bedroom is much lighter than usual.

Any tips?

Leave the window closed and room blacked out and put a fan in the room instead?

I have the same problem with my DS. He's sleeping in our bedroom where we've got blackout curtains which move when the window is open. I leave the window open all day then close it before DS goes to sleep. When I go to bed later I open it again. Usually works fine.

Put curtains up as well.

Get some velcro! I got the sort that you sew it onto the blind and then stick the other bit to the window frame. I've put 3x10cm strips down either side of the blind and it works a treat. Not very expensive either.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'd not thought of a fan or velcro.

It's my fault it's so bad - we were out this afternoon and so the windows were shut, and I forgot to draw the curtains & blinds to keep it cooler. It's a loft room with a big south-facing dormer (with lots of windows) so it heats up very quickly. We do have blackout curtains as well as blinds across the dormer, but the velux windows in the sloping roof are harder.

It's at least 23 degrees in there now; DS is sleeping in just his nappy and swaddle sheet. Not looking forward to going to bed up there myself - I'm a cold weather girl!
