as the title says, just wondering if this is a fluke or it is something that will be routine from now on........am I just wishful tinking??

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Well, you might be lucky and think it'll be routine from now but you may well be disappointed (although I hope not). I would enjoy each good night as it comes, even if they don't become 'routine'.

On the other hand, it is always comforting after a bad night to know that bad nights don't necessarily mean that bad nights will become routine.

One thing's for certain: any sleeping pattern will change at some point even if only temporarily - growth spurts, developmental spurts, sleep regressions, teething, illnesses etc etc. Babies Are Random.

Maybe I'm being overly negative. I'm just very !

My DS2 slept through between 8 weeks and 24 weeks. He is now 13 months and sadly good sleep and he are strangers. He now wakes at least twice a night!

TrinityMeemaRhino · 20/05/2010 09:45

two of mine did freaky wonderful sleeping
through for a couple of weeks when very young

it never lasts

Haliborange · 20/05/2010 09:47

My DD1 did this and it did last.
But then I had DD2 who decided not to bother sleeping much for the first 6 months.
It might become routine if you are lucky.

BornToFolk · 20/05/2010 09:51

DS slept through from 10 weeks for a good few months till teething and other things put paid to it. I didn't feed him in the night from 10 weeks though and he has always been a pretty good sleeper.

Enjoy it while it lasts! If you are breastfeeding though, you might want to talk to a breastfeeding counsellor. I have a suspicion that DS's lack of night feeding adversely affected my supply. I wish now that I'd tried to do a dreamfeed or something

HoopsAndBaby · 20/05/2010 11:00

thanks for your replies, borntofolk I had to get up at 0330 to express cause my boobs were huge and totally engorged and very painful so although he got a good nights sleep I still had to get up so I don't think my supply will be affected.

I hope I stay lucky, he really is a very happy and contented baby, usally first thing I look into his cot and see a smiley happy face looking up at me, which sets me up for the day

Hi hoops,
My DS slept through 3 nights running at 10 weeks...I thought I had it made...now he'll do it about once a month, and he's 8 months old, sorry!

Hullygully · 20/05/2010 12:53

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

pinkdaisies · 20/05/2010 16:55

Over Christmas when my baby was 6 weeks old I had the best present ever... 3 nights pretty much through the night (7-8 hours solid). Then it got much worse! Only now, at 6 months, is he doing much better. But all babies are so different, perhaps you'll be one of teh lucky ones! Hope it lasts!

sethstarkaddersmum · 20/05/2010 16:57

my dd did, consistently.
but not ds1 or ds2 sadly.

curlyLJ · 20/05/2010 17:32

my dd seems to have started doing just the same...since she was 8 weeks, 9pm - 4.30-5.00ish. She's almost 10 weeks now so i too hope it continues.

My boobs were swollen as hell the first few mornings but it has adjusted a bit now

the sleeping through seemed to start when we introduced a bedtime routine and put her down earlier. we were previously keeping her up with us because she was grouchy - didn't realise it was because she needed to go to bed

Now if only i could just sort out the daytime naps... [hopeful]

My boys slept through 12 hours a night from six weeks and my dd kept her midnght feed until 12 weeks but then went straight to a 14 hr night of sleep. None of them ever woke in the nights unless they were very ill which was rare.
Mind you, they were bottlefed.

RibenaBerry · 20/05/2010 17:53

I think that was a hollow laugh from Hully .

DD did this a few times at that age. Was one before she reliably slept through...

HoopsAndBaby · 20/05/2010 17:56

so it's probably a fluke then....bugger, oh well we'll have to see what tonight brings....

OP posts:
Haliborange · 20/05/2010 18:57

It might not be a fluke. Just keep any night feeds really boring. Was the baby having quick feeds at night anyway? My DD1 used to feed every night at 2:30am, but just before she stopped these feeds dwindled to just a couple of minutes. She simply didn't need them, but she was a frequent feeder in the day and I gave her a quick 10pm top up which saw her through until after 7am (or one day until 9am - I thought she had died and woke up in a dreadful panic!)

Oh, and there was no adverse effect on my supply. In the morning I used to feed her on one side and pump a full bottle on the other so my DH could feed her later.

AndieWalsh · 20/05/2010 19:00

My youngest slept through the night (12 hours solid) from 6 weeks old. She is 18 mths old now and still sleeping like a log

My oldest child was a creature of the night for the first 3 years, though, so I am officially allowed to be a smuggins.

HoopsAndBaby · 20/05/2010 19:03

haliorange night feeds were taking a maximum of 10 minutes and he feeds frequently in the day, every 2 hours roughly......

Two nights ago my 9wk old slept 9hrs,
last night we were up every 3-4hrs !!!

BUT....as my mum used to say to me with my first....even if it doesn't happen again, it shows they can do it ! so there is hope.

Go to bed tonight hoping for the best !

Hope your days settle a little

Haliborange · 20/05/2010 19:44

Ha ha Fourlittleducks. That's what they do. Sleep well occasionally to give you hope and then knacker you the rest of the time. .

dirtgirlworld · 21/05/2010 20:13
