Help - my 1 month still thinks day is night-time and vice versa - is driving me insane

My one month old sleeps like an angel 7am to 3pm and then becomes the baby from a nightmare the rest of the day and especially at night.

I've tried keeping him in the living room, with all the noise going on from my toddler... a light bright room, etc. HOW can I get him to realise it is day time? Should I keep waking him (I keep reading that you should not wake a sleeping baby?). I am getting desparate and angry at him (I know it isn't his fault) and angry at my bad parenting.

Congratulations on your new baby!

I read recently that day/night organisation happens around 6-8 weeks.

Exposure to daylight will help during the daytime. At night, you can try to keep things darkened, don't talk or make eye contact etc. I usually work on the basis of not waking a sleeping baby. However, does he sleep straight through from 7am to 3pm? That sounds like quite a long while without a feed for a baby that age, although I can't remember exactly how long DS would sleep for at 1 month.

Most babies have spells of fussiness and/or crying in the afternoons and evenings (and sometimes into the night). This is totally normal. It peaks at around 6-8 weeks and usually clears up completely by 3-4 months, although sometimes sooner than that.

You are definitely not a bad parent! He will get the hang of things soon.
