Windy Nights

Hello,

I am quite new to this but need some help please... DD is 8 weeks and has always been a happy sunny little thing, BUT she has never slept quietly at night. She tends to sleep well during the day (once she is asleep!) for nice quiet stretches of time, but at night she is constantly moaning, writhing and grunting. I am assuming this is wind and so have tried picking her up and winding her, have tried ignoring her in the hopes she might go off into a deep sleep, have tried pumping her legs (as suggested in another thread) to force out the farts. Nothing has worked and I am losing sleep...

Is there anything I can do or should I turn to gripe water/Infacol? If I do that, will she need to be on it until she is weaned?

Help!

Hiya Aok

Sorry you're having a tough time of it ovenight. Sounds exactly like my DD was when she was younger.

Google "lactose overload" and you'll find info and advice (assuming that's what's causing the gas - symptoms suggest it probably is). Don't worry, it's nothing serious (65% of babies have this at some point) and it's related to the immaturity of their digestive systems. Be assured, your LO will grow out of it - with my DD, she improved hugely at about 9 weeks old and doesn't have the problem anymore, but it varies from baby to baby.

Medication probably won't make much difference, but you can always try it, probably wouldn't do any harm.
