How many and for how long should my 10mth old nap for during the day?

Hi all,
DD is 10 months old on Saturday, and to this day has not slept through
Anyway, she's always been a cat napper during the day, but over the last few weeks has changed her nap pattern. She tends to have the following;

Awake 6am
Nap 7.30am-9am
Nap 1-2pm (sometimes 1-2.30pm)
Bed 7pm (sometimes 7.30pm)

She doesn't feed in the night, just wakes a few times for a cuddle and the dummy then back off.

Is she having too much sleep in the day now? It doesn't seem to be affecting her night time sleep in either a positive or a negative way!

Any replies much appreciated, am running on fumes at the moment...

Here is some useful information on how much sleep babies should have for their age -
baby sleep article.

Hohumchops · 05/05/2010 21:09

At that age, DS slept once a day - anywhere up to two hours.

DS2 (9 months) does something similar
wakes around 6am.
Nap around 8.30 - 9am until about 10.30-11am.
Nap roughly 1pm-3pm
Bed 7pm (ish)

He now sleeps from 7pm until around 6am but that only happened about 2 months ago, he was a frequent waker until then.

I recall that DS1 had a similar pattern at this age too.

Does she need to learn to settle herself back off to sleep when she wakes in the night? Personally I would say that her amount of sleep during the day sounds about right.

Good luck

Thanks girls, littlemisslozza yes she does need to learn to settle herself at night doesn't she - is CC the only way to do this? I can't bear the thought of it, so much easier to go in and comfort

No, I've never done CC as it would just be too stressful, not my thing but obviously works for some.
I don't know what you've already tried but the following things might be worth a go if you haven't already tried them.
If she has a dummy then can you make sure there are several in her cot right by her for her to put back in?
Does putting your hand on her tummy while 'shushing' and giving her her dummy back help?
Does she settle herself off to sleep in the first place? With DS1 I would always put him in his cot asleep so whenever he woke up he would shout for me! I made sure DS2 learnt to settle himself off to sleep with a dummy and blankie bear from about 3 months and he is a much better sleeper (now that he doesn't need night feeds anyway!).

Thanks Littlemiss, will try the dummies, but she isn't very good at putting her own dummy in.... she only has it for naps and bedtime and I've actually never seen her put her own dummy in.... I'll litter the cot with them tomorrow night and see what happens.
She goes in her cot very sleepy and is falling asleep as I take her upstairs.. however she normally wakes and cries after an hour, I then comfort while she's in her cot and she drops off after 5-10 minutes.
I will persevere with a comforter - she hasn't taken to one so far, may buy a smaller one and see if she takes it as have been trying to use a soft toy but think it just gets in her way in the cot.
I'll take her upstairs tomorrow night before she's dropping off and settle her off in the cot and hope that makes a difference too.
Many thanks for the tips!
