Drastic change in sleeping at night

My 5 Month old ha suddenly become terribly unsettled at night. She has previously woken once or twice between 11 and 7 to feed but generally settled back to sleep quickly.

For the past couple of weeks she has been tossing and turning, and waking frequently. Sometimes every couple of hours (or more!). I usually feed as first option if she doesn't settle straight back down. This sometimes works but most nights we have at least one wake that lasts between an hour to an hour and half. She isn't often waking up crying, just waking!

She is showing all signs of teething and so health visitor puts it down to this and her only suggestion of anything that we haven't already tried is to do controlled crying. I'm not keen.

Had ut waking down to growth spurt or teething but wandered if anyone else had simialr problem at around this age?

Any suggestions welcome!

they can have a growth spurt at around 5 months

CC isn't the answer - if she settles after a feed then feed her

I agree regarding CC. Not a helpful suggestion from HV! she usually settles after a feed...although sometimes not until an hour after!!!!

what is she doing for that hour if she doesn't settle?

We usually try and settle her. She isn't able to self settle her yet so we walk her around, rock, cuddle etc etc. I'm sure she would be happy to get up and play but we keep it pretty low key. Lights down etc. She is sometimes hapy entertaning herslef in her cot for a little while.

sounds like you are doing a great job

it will settle down - DD got better at settling herself at around 6 months

I think that's what I wanted to hear!! We have been spoilt as she has been so good at night up until now. It's beena bit of a shock to the system...she never woke this much even when she was little!

Will continue teleling myself it won't last forever!!
