What bed for a 3 year old ? Also ideas for setting up her own room in new house

In the summer, we're relocating from overseas to the UK and I know from living in the UK a decade ago, buying furniture is a nightmare and it takes forever to arrive.

The whole market seems set up for those rip off Dreams type rubbish advertised on the TV with 4 years interest free (really charging you £1000 for a £200 (if that) bed).

I used a firm called Alphabeds ( www.alphabeds.co.uk/ )for beds back in the 1990s and they had great stained pine frames and good, if relatively expensive, mattresses. I've also seen this one in London www.tauruspinebeds.co.uk/ but really wonder whether they are suited for a 3 year old ?

I know she'll be back in bed with mum as I'm overseas and she's a mischievous little minx who loves being around people but I do want to set things off on the right tone and get her her own room from day one.

I saw a post on another thread about a mother who gave her child a double bed and I wonder if that isn't just a better idea all together. If she did ever need reassurance, then one of us could go to her, keeping her in her own room, rather than having her invade our room. The lessor of two evils if you will.

Up to now she has not shown any desire for "baby" bedding though I have bought some (In the Night Garden stuff). However, if I were to move to a double bed, then there would be none of that going forward. I am a practical guy and never had a poster on my wall nor any special bedding but I do see times when a child might want this or that. Feel free is the way I think and I'll repair the wall later.

From a practical point I see more advantages than disadvantages but perhaps I am overlooking something.

I'd appreciate any suggestions and comments, especially from those who have been through this stage of creating the child's bedroom in a new house.

ds has this low sleeper bed with Ben10 covers. The only things on his walls are pictures he has drawn/painted/made and they are stuck with blu/white tack so the walls dont get ruined.

When we moved home ds was at the stage of growing out of his cot so we put him straight into a 'big' bed in the new house. We bought ds a simple single bed from ikea. Not that expensive and still plenty of room for one of us to get in with him if we needed to. There are single beds which store another mattress underneath if you have a slightly bigger budget.

He adjusted fine, with a few nights of getting up constantly (a stairgate across his bedroom door helped).

Personally I don't think a double bed is the best idea as I would be paranoid about a 3 year old easily slipping under the duvet and getting lost! With a 3 year old there would still be plenty of room in a single bed, although we rarely ever slept with ds but only got in for a cuddle or stories.

I hope you find what you are after and the transition goes well for you all.
