Do you get a 7 wk old napping in a cot (or anywhere) with a 3 1/2 yr old around?

You make sure the 3.5 yr old goes to preschool for 5 sessions a week! .That gives you mornings free for quiet naps.
Also, as long as you have a baby monitor, once 7wk old asleep in cot, shut their bedroom door. It's important that whilst you let 3.5 yr old know that you need to be quieter with the baby sleeping, that they don't feel as though all the focus is taken off them and they're being punished if they make a noise.
I know loads of people say that it's good for babies to have noise whilst they sleep but mine have never slept with the hoover/hairdryer/washing machine on etc. Perhaps, you could set up 3.5 DC with a creative activity such as colouring/lego etc before baby's nap and then they're into something when you put baby down to nap.

She is very creative so will try a 'do this for mummy whilst..... activity. She is also a people person and likes to be with youand new ds. She does go to nursery but find ds is asleep in car sear and on the one occasion I took him out and put in cot he woke straight away.

Also ds is 7 wks, bf and I am finding fro
5-7 he cries constantly. Constantly wants breast but not really feeding. Seems over tired but if I lay in cot he screams and this prevents us getting dd down to sleep. Any ideas? Does he sound hungry, tired or like he might need a dummy? Not against dummies and would use one if I felt this is what he needs.

Oh i remeber the witching hour with fondness.
Maybe try popping him in a sling then you have hands free to settle DD to bed and even if he is still restless you are able to comfort him by having him close.

In my experience the naps just come and if you just try and read his cues for when he is tired and have something in a cupboard to whip out to keepm DD occupied.

I would personally would keep trying the transfer from carseat to cot asit makes life so much easier when you can move them around asleep. But realise he might not manage it.

Great advice thanks. Could not bring myself to buy a dummy today. May regret this in half an hour or so.

well for me a sling saves the day usually. i pop ds in that while i carry on doing normal things. other than that i take them both to the park and i walk laps while dd plays. or ds just sleeps in the car while i take dd here there and everywhere.
