Overtired baby's sleep is a mess

Can someone help?

My 5.5 month baby's sleep has gone right out the window after missing a few naps and being ill.

DS as a result has been fighting every single sleep - naps and bedtime. Sometimes it can take half an hour plus to settle for a nap. Bedtime is taking sometimes two hours.

This is a combination of rocking/feeding/leaving him/sling etc etc.

I'm basically at the end of my tether. I'm trying to put him down at the same time every day but by the time he's asleep it's not the same. He's getting more and more overtired as he's awake for stretches of 3-6 hours at a time. It's a vicious cycle as the more he fights, the more tired he gets.

I'm also getting fed up as I have to deal with a grumpy baby with puffy eyes and big bags!

Please can someone give me any tips as to how I can get things back on track? I did try spending a week dealing with it but it's not working

Could he be teething?

My DS is now awake for up to 51/2 hours at a time.I watch for him yawning or rubbing his eyes then take him to bed.

Today he got up at 6am went for a nap at 10am for 11/2 hours

Then second nap at 1-2pm

Bed at 6pm

not exactly like the books say but I am not going to wake him up.

I hope you have had a better day.

The baby whisperer books is good for getting you back on track.

Hello!

I think he might be - he bites my fingers for ages at a time. I've tried giving him ambesol and calpol gel but not noticing any difference.

He is also staying awake for longer stretches and not doing what the books say either... I should throw them out! It reminds me when he was first born. DH and I used to sit there with the gina ford routines and wonder why he wasn't sleeping/feeding/awake at the times prescribed!

We are going to try the baby whisperer method of pick up put down. Wish us luck!

Today was better - he got a few more naps in which was good.

I have bought the Gina Ford book 3 times and burned it once and lost it once. (that's why she does so well !)

I think the whisperer is better but still take it with a pinch of salt.

I wish you luck and sleep.

Oh yes I will. I've read the whisperer and tried not to get too offended as she implies everything I've done so far is wrong!!
