Help 10 week old to sleep more than 45 mins

First can I say how comforting I find it to see so many mums on here who have similar problems, it really helps to not feel so alone!

Can anyone help me with some advice? Have a 10 week old who only sleeps 35-45 mins during the day at a time and wakes screaming and very unhappy. He is bottle fed (every 3 hours) so don't feel I can keep feeding him earlier as he doesn't seem to be hungry.

Also have 2 year old who wants constant attention and every time I try to go and resettle has a tantrum outside the door! When I give up and bring baby downstairs we are both upset having to listen to the crying.

Baby only seems to be able to stay awake for 1 and a half hours at the very most but if I catch him at the right time he will go down without a fight, so that is something....

Any tips or advice would be so appreciated.....thanks

Neither of my babies at this age slept more than 40 mins a time and also could only stay up for 90 mins max too. I found the real turning point was at about 5 months (ish) when they were ready to go down to 2 naps a day at 10.30am and 2 or 3pm. The morning nap became a nice big one then

The sleepy signs I always looked for were going quieter, rubbing nose or eyes, if they yawned even once I had to start soothing to sleep and get them into bed asap or it went def com 5. Neither of mine enjoyed being put in a bedroom all alone to nap and did fuss in the early days but I tried to be consistent on naps and always doing the same routine on shutting curtains with them in my arms, a gentle feed to soothe them, then laying down drowsy after feed and switching mobile on etc. But whatever works for you. I always did the same thing, so they knew it was nap time. Also did a bit of PUPD style sleep training if I knew they were tired and weren't settling. So basically my toddler watched an awful lot of CBeebies in the early days

I also found at this age they preferred to go to bed at 6.30pm at the latest. So I ended up staggering bedtime as my children are 17 months apart, so I'd have to leave toddler watching tv whilst soothing/ feeding baby in dark room. And then me and her would have a special bath time, just the 2 of us and story time after he was in bed.

Nowadays it's so lovely doing bath and bedtime together. But it was so hard in those early days with both of mine being so close together.

It's always hard when you're in the thick of it. Nothing can prepare you for motherhood or those overwhelming feelings and emotions.

Your sound like you're doing great. Do you have time off when a gp or mum or MIL or your partner can look after them, so you can rest too? I was guilty of being a control freak and not wanting to ever leave my first baby with anyone at all. But it is good for the soul to go to a beauty spa and have a treat or have a coffee with a pal alone.

Sending you a hug my lovely, have a good day, it looks nice outside here x

Yes I can put my hand up and say I am a control freak too! My husband is great and he is always happy to help on weekends. He did look after baby a bit on Saturday while I went to an exercise class (as lots of baby and toddler screaming sends me off to the kitchen) and was like 'my god how do you stand the screaming'!! So at least he now understands what its like here........

Thank you for your message, hope you have a good day too x
