What? By 4 weeks?

I think you may need to adjust your expectations!

oopsandbabycoconut · 08/03/2010 08:05

sleep???? I think that was that the 2 hourly bit inbetween feedings/nappies/burps/more nappies which took an hour and a half. Our routine was feed, burp, change, feed, burp, change at frequent intervals - sometimes no break between the cycles!

mummynumnum · 08/03/2010 08:06

well i havent either and cant remember with dd1 whether i hadattempted daytime naps upstairs or bedtime routine by 4wks. coping well, but have not even had time to contemplate 4wk olds routine. Just checking others experiences and that norm to be still in the go with the flow routine!

Would like to start expressing to see if he will take a bottle, but cant even squeeze time in for that!

They werent expectations and have not even tried routine, was just thinking whether I should be. forgotten experiences from first time round!

Go with the flow is good mummy Especially with another child around your routine will most likely sort of settle around your dd1's day just because it has to.

mummynumnum · 08/03/2010 08:37

That is what I am finding. dd1 has her routine pretty much same and ds (my 4wk old) is going along with that and bears no resemblance of a routine at present! But thought 4 wks was probably too early, even though mother looking disapprovingly at lack of it!!! Think have done well to keep dd.

Routine?! Why do I hate that word so much?
I remember my Mum asking me on day 2 if DS1 was in a routine and when he was due a feed!
DS3 is 5mo and still has no real routine. When people ask I just say that I'm led by his needs rather than trying to shoehorn him in to a routine devised by someone else (usually with no children ).

I'm sure if I sat down and wrote down all his feeds and sleeps there would be some vague routine, but quite frankly I don't have time for that!

Anyway rant over- sounds like you're doing brilliantly mummynumnum.

re expressing, I used to express from one side while feeding on the other

cupofcoffee · 08/03/2010 15:49

9 week old here and our routine is still feed, burp, change, feed, burp, change and then quickly do few other things before it all starts again.

mummynumnum · 08/03/2010 17:39

Yep just the same! has slept most of day, so now worried will be awake all night. he is v good boy. v content on the whole!

Ahh this is reassuring! DS is 4 1/2 weeks and it's change, feed, burp, settle, catch a nap, change, feed, change, with the occasional bounce around with the sling in front of the extractor fan to settle here too.

I hope you all have messy houses like me as well
