Cluster Feeding at 13 weeks?

DS is 13 weeks, breastfed and still feeds almost continuously until about 9:30-10pm (getting a little earlier but not much) from about 6pm. I have tried at about 8pm to stop and wait for a little while, try to get him to sleep, or at least not feed for a while, pat him, rock him, leave him, give him a dummy (he refuses it) and he wants boob. He does appear to actually be drinking rather than just suckling, even though my boobs feel empty. However, on some days when he has missed a few feeds due to falling asleep in the car, he is fine. He did that on saturday, fell asleep in the car in way home from a friend's at 7:45pm or so, and stayed asleep til i put him to bed at 9:30pm, quick dozey feed then slept til i can't remember, but a while.

Can he actually be hungry all this time? Or is he comfort feeding? He has a great appetite in the day, and has a good few days where he just seems to want to eat. His weight gain is good so its not like he is not getting enough nutrition, and he is a happy baby. But he feeds so differently to how DD fed (almost to the minute fed 4 hourly from the beginning) so I am a bit whether i am setting up some bad routine and if so how to break it before it is a real problem, or whether i should ride it out as he is just a hungry boy who likes his milk.

Pav - sounds like he is approaching the four month growth spurt, so he will suckle a lot at this time anyway...I would ride it out for the time being and then see how you go -you may find that once this growth spurt is past, he settles down to a more regular routine

Hey jimmy! When you coming down?!

Thanks, I completley forget when theses growth spurts! \would explain him not sleeping at night due to wanting milk too! He seems to be having a permanent growth spurt

Are you and your little wonderful boy well?

Pavlov, My DD was like this, she is 5 months now but still feeds every 2 1/2 to 3 hours during the day.

I have tried to get her to go a bit longer but it didn't work so have gone with demand feeding.

I have actually found now that the more I feed her in the day the better she sleeps at night. About a month ago she started sleeping 6pm-5am with 11pm dream feed.

So although it feels like a pita to be feeding so much it might actually turn out to be a good thing.
