Morning all

I think the correct term is sleep apeno, does anyone have any problems with this? My LO stops breathing for a few seconds and it wakes him at times.

Thanks.

worrier speak to your health visitor if you are worried. Remember that it is normal for your breathing to slow right down when you are sleeping and it's easy to panic that people aren't breathing enough. If you are really worried speak to your health visitor who can arrange a test. My ds (age 3) just had it, they lend you a machine over night and you let him sleep with a little clip over his finger. The machine monitors blood oxygen levels overnight. You take it back and they analyse the results. We are waiting for a follow up appointment after having ours.
Think it is called Oxygen saturation test.
Hope that helps!

Hi Worrier28 - yes both my DS's suffered with this condition. DS1 suffered until he was 4 months old and DS2 suffered for 1 week, immediately after he was born. We spent the whole time in SC unit. I bought an apnea mattress called "The Nanny". Very good and have used on both DS. It basically monitors breathing and if it doesn't detect breathing for 20 seconds it sounds an alarm, for waking your baby to breath again and also to wake parents up to attend to LO. It is very scary I know and DS1 was really bad as he had his episodes 4-5 times every night right through until he was 4 months old. I had to flick his cheek, blow on him etc to stimulate his breathing again. At times very very blue. That was when I didn't know what was going on and another mother at a group told me boys were lazy and it sometimes happened, so I thought ok it's normal. At a routine check with Doctor I told him about it and he went nuts. Said I should of told them right from the beginning and he explained what he was suffering with. That was when I then bought The Nanny mattress. You definitely need to report it to make sure LO is otherwise physically well and as detailed above they may do the oxygen checks whilst LO sleeping to see what and why it is happening. Apparently very common in boys. I also received resus training in the event LO struggles to breath again. It's a scary prospect but you need to make sure you have all information available so you can deal with any event which might throw you. Good luck.
