Sudden colic at 10 1/2 months - bad sleeping

My 10 1/2 month dd has started to wake up at night, absolutely screaming - rigid back, clearly in quite a lot of pain. Seems like colic, which she's never had before. She's now done this twice - terrifying the first time, had a high temperature. Could this tummy pain be caused by teething? or possible dehydration? Has anyone else experience this?

She's normally a very good, placid baby and a great sleeper, so very unusual.

It could be teething but you should mention it to your GP anyway just to be on the safe side. Our ds has been teething constantly since he was 2 months old and has 8 teeth now and still going. It is awful for them. Try giving Calpol and see if it helps.

I think babies generally go through a phase of disturbed sleep round about this age. As they reach so many developmental milestones they just get too excited to sleep. It's also he age when they develop separation anxiety so it may be a mixture of all these things.

It can be a shock to the system after so many nights sleeping through. Good luck!

Thx monkeytrousers. Think we've been spoilt to be honest as she's always been so good. Horrid to see her in so much pain though (and tricky to get medicine down her when she's hysterical!)

Try giving it to her a bed time and see if it helps her sleep through. 5 mls should wear off between 4 and 6 hours. Teething gel is good too.

HI, I am a new membermy daughter is being is currently being checked to see if she has tourettes, she has several tics including a vocal. I would like to hear from anyone who has advice on how to tell a six year old to ignore stares and sniggers.

tew - could it be night terrors (confusional arousal in littleys). They can be brought on by overtiredness/overstimulation. 9 to 10 months is also a bad age for sleep problems - my dd was terrible at that age and I ended up having to have a longer wind down routine with a bath before bed, stories, etc to help calm her down better. I also started putting her in a grobag in case she was waking up after kicking her covers off.
