Daytime sleep

Hi all,

Our DS is just over 11 weeks old and the only way we can get him to sleep in the day is to take him out in the pram, all wrapped up. At home he just gets more and more frustrated and wont go down. Yesterday, I was going to take him out on a sleep walk when I noticed that as soon as I got him in the coat and out in our hallway, he went to sleep. Since then my wife and I have been using the hallway as a daytime sleep zone which seems to be working, but there is no heating in our hallway, and it is pretty cold out there coz there is a bit of a draft from the front door. So we wrap him up in his outdoor coat and a hat and he seems pretty content, but we cant help feeling cruel doing it to him, although it seems to work. I feel terrible coz we cant see him out there but my wife says it would be the same if we shut him in his bedroom to sleep, we use a baby monitor to keep an ear out for him and we are only in the next room anyway. We just wanted to get some reassurance from people on here really.

If it works... Stick with it

Maybe it's the cooler fresh air which helps? If you're worried you could have the bedroom window open and your DS all wrapped up and see if that works?

Go with what works. You are not being cruel you are letting your child sleep. Cooler air is probably good too - think of all those 1950s mums who put children put to sleep whatever the weather.

As long as it's locked, not accesible from the outside I say it's a great idea.

I wish my 3 month old ds2 would have some daytime naps...anywhere! He only sleeps on me

my 13 month old only naps in the pram in the hallway or in the car - don't worry. whatever helps. you can always change it or break the habit later if you need.

Some people do recommend a daytime nap in a different place to night time, so that they know the difference. I know plenty of people whose children's daytime naps are in the buggy in various places.

If it works for you. Carry on! You're doing great x
