Early starts 4 year old - does it change when they go to school?

My DS1 wakes up every day sometime between 5 and 6am and has done for the past 2 years. He goes out like a light when he goes to be at 7pm. My Mum says that when he starts school in Sept, it'll change as he'll need more sleep and find it exhausting. Other people have told me the same, so I'm clinging on to this at the moment. He attends day care nursery for 3 full days a week, so used to long days. Does this really happen?

mine were 5.30-6 wakers - but tend to be about 1/2 hr to an hr later during school time.

Fingers crossed your DS moves a bit later too.

Oh god I hope so, Effjay!

I am in the same situation, 3yo who wakes early (5:30am this morning) and has done for a long time.

However I am dubious that school will miraculously change this situation (sorry!). She goes to nursery for 4 full days a week, which is already a longer day than school will be.I think maybe going to school would make a difference to her sleep pattern if she wasn't used to this kind of setting, but as she has been in a nursery environment since 1.5yrs I think she is well adapted to this situation.

My friend has an early waker who now goes to school (never went to nursery) and he still wakes at silly o'clock.

So it probably varies child to child, fingers crossed for us that school changes the early wakings!

Thanks folks, fingers crossed ... they must make the transition at some point from being very early wakers to teenagers you have to haul out of bed - I'm sure I'll be grumbling about that when it happens too!
