DS2 (3) won't sleep with a blanket/duvet on

For what seems like ages now - months and months - DS2 (3) won't go to sleep with either a blanket or a duvet over him. He used to be fine about it, but that's all changed.

Once he's asleep, I can put a blanket over him. However, every night he kicks his blanket off and then, more often than not, he wakes up and cries because he's cold. His room temperature is fine.

DH (because DS2 only wants him but that's a phase he's been going through for over 18 months and is a whole other thread!) then has to wait until DS2 has gone back to sleep so he can put the blanket back over him.

Any ideas please (because the bags under DH's eyes are just not that attractive!)?

Our DS (2.11) often kicks his covers off so during the winter we put him in all in one fleecy sleepsuits with a vest underneath as well. ie, instead of cotton pjs which leave the ankels / middle bit showing. You can get them normally up to age 3-4. Primark do a really cheap one for £4 (!!) but is a bit thinner than the Boots/mothercare ones.

Thanks for that suggestion. Will have a look for one. He wears pyjamas with a thermal top underneath and has Totes socks on as well, but the all-in-one is worth trying.

Still puzzled about the blanket/duvet aversion though!

both of mine were like this till 4 ish.

Yes we had this problem as well with our Daughter, I found the perfect solution. Its called the a GROW BLANKET, not many places sell it though. its fanstic worth buying one and trying. just tap growblanket in google and it will list a few stores where you can buy them on line. its a blanket you slide over the cot or cotbed mattress and just unzip cover lay your daughter/son in and zip up it great they can roll around and kick with out falling out. try it and see how you go. My daughter is now using the growblanket on her toddler bed it brilliant as it stops her falling out of bed to.

do you make them ?

LauraIngallsWilder · 26/01/2010 09:22

Just tap growblanket into google

Sounds like marketing speak to me!

Thanks for the suggestions. Got DS2 one of those fleecy all-in-one sleepers with feet from Tesco - it was even in the sale! More amazingly, DH (who almost never buys the DC clothes) had the common sense to buy 2 for when one of them is in the wash!

Seems to be going well so far. Thanks.

No just a pleased mum to find something that isnt a waste of money. Most baby items you get told you must have go to the back of your cuboards,

Didn't mean to ignore you lucilocket. Thanks for your post. Had a look at the grow blanket. The problem with DS2 is that he won't have a blanket over him while he's awake, but thanks anyway.

My DS is like this too, he is only 15 months though. I can't put him in sleepsuits/all in ones as he has huge feet and they get curled up which I don't think is good for foot development. So at the moment he wears a vest, normal pyjamas, and then on top either a grobag with the bottom unzipped and folded up so that his feet are out, a dressing gown (undone because I am paranoid about him strangling himself on the belt) or a fleece, pullover type jumper (ie one with no buttons/zips) and I keep the heating on low overnight - for the whole house though if he had his own room I'd probably just put a little electric/oil heater in there if I was sure he wouldn't climb out of bed and knock it over or burn himself.

On very cold nights I sneak in when he is asleep and put socks and/or slippers on him!
