6 year old singing & rocking to sleep

DD rocks & sings herself to sleep at nights. When she was a toddler she used to bang her head against the cot side, but thankfully this stopped when she was about 3. Apparently DH did the exact same thing when little, too.

I have mentioned it to HVs and GPs at every opportunity, but everyone seems to think it's just a funny habit. She was assessed by an ed psych last year for some learning delay, which looks likely to be dyslexia. His take was that it wasn't anything to be concerned about.

She went to bed an hour ago and I can hear her now, singing away merrily and rocking her head from side to side! Sometimes it goes on until 11pm. When I go in to check on her, she is always perfectly happy and will usually ask me to go so that she can go to sleep! - but continues to sing and bounce afterwards. She always wakes up with her hair in a massive dreadlock, whatever style we put it in.

I go through periods of really worrying about it, although a number of professionals have told me not to. Anyone had a similar situation?

yy

There was a strand on Home Truths about this years ago and heaps of folks did it as children, baging head on pillow, rocking, going 'urrrrrrrr', etc

Oh blimey yes, going "urrrrrrr" - that happened for a few months, it was awful to listen to.

What's "Home Truths?"

Home Truths was a radio 4 show with the late great John Peel

Ah yes of course it was, blast from the past!
