He'll only sleep with a blanket over his face

Hello there

I'm in the throes of hideous tiredness, as since Friday DS has slept no more than two hours at a stretch. This coincides with me taking his blanket away from him in a panic about SIDS.

He'd been waking up lots in the night, until I realised he was cold and put a blanket over his grobag, tucked in, and another light cellular blanket over his arms. He then started sleeping 11 til 7. I noticed he'd pull the cellular blanket over his face, but thought as it was holey it was OK. But after reading about SIDS, and the fact that it's stale air that can be a problem, I've taken it away.

But now he's waking every 45 mins to an hour between 1am and 6am, with me not going to sleep in between times, and I cant take it for much longer. He's cranky during the day, and I'm short with him. He's never been one for naps, and it hasn't changed - he has 30 mins at a time, if I'm lucky.

So, is it OK to have a holey blanket over his face? Or do I have to tough it out, and hope he gets used to it?

Oh, and by the way he's six months, at which stage I believe the risk of SIDS diminishes...

My DD will only sleep if holey crochet blanket is on her face - she is just over 3 months.

Not saying it's right, just telling you what my dd does.

my ds started to put his cellular blanket over his face about age 6 months and still does a year later as its his comfort blanket.

it sounds like you ds has got attached to this blanket and cant sleep without it, i wouldnt take it off him but before you go to bed try and remove as much of it of the front of his face without taking t off his head iykwim! (for your peace of mind.)

ooh and go buy a few more that look the same now because your panic when he two and you have lost blankie at the park and you can buy a replacement

It's worse than I thought! I gave it back to him last night, in a 'supervised' manner as you suggested, but it made little difference. He woke at 1.20, 4 til 5, 6.30, and 8. Lord.
